383 / Flowmaster Delta Flow 40 mufflers set off first car alarm.

I drove my car to work yesterday for the first time after installing the new engine, trans, exhaust, etc… When I cranked her up to leave, the alarm on a truck that was parked a space over from me went off. (I liked it tooo much!):yesnod: This was at 6 a.m., I was leaving after a nightshift. It drew lots of attention from the people walking in for dayshift.

I like the sound of my new Flowmasters. The idle is very deep and they sound pretty good when you lay on the gas. Overall they are not very loud. Just deep sounding. They are not very loud AT ALL while traveling down the highway. Very easy to carry on a conversation.

I had a cross over pipe installed just behind the transmission. That may not be the optimum place for it but there weren’t many choices.

Re: OPINIONS PLEASE - CHAMBERED versus DUAL w/MUFFLERS

I have had 2 1/2" chambered on my hot rod '74 (355, 10:1, stout cam, headers, etc ) for two seasons now. I added a set of Pacer resonator tips almost as soon as I got them, it mellowed them out a little, but I still set of car alarms when I drive thru a parking lot . They sound cool as all get out, truley the muscle car sound, but I hate not being able to get on it without drawing a lot of attention. They also tend to drone on the highway, my car cruises at about 3k and the resonance gets to you after a while.

If I was only going to cruises and shows I would leave them on, but I am now considering some other setup, I want to hear Robzr's car and see what it sounds like then by the end of this summer add a new exhaust to mine.

Gotta love it! I just had a chambered exhaust installed, and I love when that happens!

I had a new exhaust installed this summer. I'm much quieter now inside, but I set off the alarm on my wife's car when I'm backing out of the garage....too cool!

Miker........I also have 2 1/2 40 searies Two-Chamber Flowmasters on my 80. The only time I get the sound I'm looking for is when I nail it. Are you using 2 or 3 chamber

I have borla's on my 82 with a hi flow cat. Other mods in signature. Anytime I go into a garage, same thing. Especially fun to drive into the Houstonian where all those high priced luxo cars are. Just a little tweak of the throttle when shutting down and starting and its like a circus.

I set one off with the stock exhaust on my L-82. Scared the hell out of me, I didn't think it was loud enough. The alarms on the ricers in the complex where I live are unbelievably touchy, I guess.

SILVRTOY,
I guess that my Flowmaster Deltaflow 40's are three chamber???. Here is a link to the Flowmaster website showing the flowmaster 40 cut-a-way but I'm not sure it that cut-a-way is of the regular 40 or the Deltaflow 40. The Deltaflows are supposed to be quieter than the standard 40s.

At first, I felt like mine turned out to be too quiet but it has a really nice DEEP tone at idle and like you say, they growl pretty good when you step on it but cruising down the highway they are really quiet.
I have 2- 1/4" pipes with a cross-over placed behind the transmission.
