Thill 5/24/06 Field Report
 

There were more Corvettes there than any other mark; including an 06 ZO6 on Goodyear racing slicks! This was the Phil Holmes track event and it provides a lot track time. Two groups, one runs for 25 minutes at the hour, every hour except lunch, the other group at the half hour. That is up to 175 minutes of track time. Of course, my car wore out in the middle of the sixth session; burnt through a new set of front and rear pads and wore my left rear tire to the cords( Hoosier GAC scrubs- Traction V treated; total 16 sessions.) Had one wild tankslapper on the flat out exit of 9, but kept the wheels pointed straight and passed the 911 I was chasing before 10. It was a point by event and most everyone was pretty courteous. I think I only pointed by Jim in the Lemans Z06, the rest were pointee's. All of the Corvette folk were very communicative and I had a great time. We went to Frog's Grog(?) in Fairfield afterwards. I got home late with a smile on my face so my wife is very suspicious!!!

Sorry I didn't get a chance to hook up with you. I was in the white 4 door 98 M3. I ran in the Intermediate group. I was timing some of my laps and was pulling consistent 2:20s wth a couple 2:19s . Not sure if this is good or not but I was running on my Michelin PS2 street tires.

I got 190 miles of track time and ran almost a full hour straight in the open session. Awesome day at the track. Next time I'll take my 2000 FRC.

What did you car look like? I took a lot of T1 video of the advanced group. I'll send you a clip if I have one.:thumbs:

190 miles on the track without anything breaking! Don't say that around here. For every hour of track time, I average five hours fixing it. Those BMW's are looking better all the time. I'll meet up with you next time.

Chewcked lugnuts and oil levels a couple times. Drove it home, dropped two booster seats in back and drove the kids to school this morning. Gotta love a 4 door M3. :-) Always nice to have a backup track worthy car since my C5 was down.

Hey all, it was a great event. For me only two spins and maybe a half dozen tank slappers. Hard to say when I'll finish my '68 beast, but my very recently purchased gutted race-only RX7 was a hoot to drive and wicked-fast in the tight stuff, however it definately lacks straight-line speed. hmmm... I hear an LS motor is almost a bolt-in in those cars.
