Too narrow, I run 305 on my 11" wheels. For a 12 you really need a 325+

I've given you my advice it is your choice of whether you want to take it or not.

jklarkpimp 10-05-2006 02:07 AM

thx for your input but I know a guy who has the 18X9.5 in the front and he runs the 245 which should be a 275......30m diff........so then would you be able to run a 305 on a 325 only 20m diff in the back....Opinions???? (its just those dam 400ea runflats i dont want to get).....

427Z 10-05-2006 06:23 AM

actually you can put the 305 on a 12" wheel and its within the tire spec.

i was running toyo 555r2 305-35-18 on 18x12" wheels. the tire spec was 10.5-12.0"

it looked like the 335 viper tire on the 13" viper wheel

AU N EGL 10-05-2006 07:20 AM

I run 18x305/30 on 12" rims no problems. up front

and 18x335/30 on 13" rims in back

Hoosier VRL left 18x305 top and 18x335 bottom
Mich PS Right 18x275 on 18x10 and 18x335 on 18x12

No. There is a recommended range of rim width for each tire size from mfg's. A 305mm tire is outside the range for a 12" wheel. Manufacturers have no incentive in declaring a tire not compatible with a given wheel width.

go to toyo's web site and look up specs for a 305 555r2 tire. it says rim width rage of 10.5" to 12.0"

Rember guys NOT all tires are measured the same. Manufactures measure tires differetly and have different rim recomondations.

for example and Mich PS or PS2 335 is 13.1" wide

but a Hoosier 335 is 13.6" wide Full 1/2" difference

bad advice...

305 will fit just fine on a 12" wheel.

Most tire manufacturers disagree with you.

True, but I believe from the OP's wording ("Does anyone know if a 305 tire will fit the 12" wide wheel in the rear") that he was referring to the C6 Z06 wheel, in which case we are talking about a 19" wheel. As you know, the 555r2 does not come in a 305/xx-19 size. It stands to reason that a bigger sidewall (as with an 18" fitment) would have more sidewall flex, thus possibly allowing more latitude as to rim width.

In addition to my previously cited source (1010tires) that recommended against 305s on a 19" x 12" rim, Michelin also does not recommend it (see listing for 305/30ZR19/XL). These companies must have a reason why they do not recommend it.

ok i see your point. yes, i too think if one wants to put a 305 tire on a 12" wide wheel, they should check the rim width range on that particular tire to see if its within range.

and you're right, many of the 305's dont list a 12" wide wheel to be within spec. and i would not go beyond the specs myself.

having said that, there are some Z06 guys running the 555r2's on ccw race wheels in 18's

So, not to hijack the thread, a 305 would be fine on a standard Z51 11" wheel, yes?

yes, and it would work on a 10" wheel too. 10", 11" or 12"
