ZR-1 Mystery Key/Top Speed???
I heard many different rumors about the key in the ZR-1's that is located below the radio. I was wondering if someone could tell me what this does and how it works. Also, does anyone know what the actual top speed is of a stock ZR-1.

The key does the following...
(Keep in mind the LT-5 has 16 intake ports) 1) Turns off the highend injectors (LT-5's have 16 Fuel injectors, 8 for the primaries, and 8 for secondaries) 2) Turns off the vacuum secondaries Net result is about 225hp (+/-) vs the full blown 375 (or 405 depending on year) - It reacts as though the car is an L-98 - About the same performance with the key off. The difference in the drivers seat is huge... The engine doesn't want to tach much more then 4,500 - It just runs out of breathing. |

What he said.
It's called a "valet key" for obvious reasons. Regards, |

Just to add a little. The key also cuts on the second fuel pump.
Top speed varies from high in the 170's to mid 180's mph. |

Hmm, I´m trying to get my hands on a tuned ZR-1 here in Germany.
Was a Test Car for GEIGER Performance Engineering in Munich. They even developed a Blower for the ZR-1 engine!!! More than 600 RWHP!!! The car I´m interested in was a test-vehicle for GEIGER and the Chief mechanic. It is reported that it is capable of doing 195+ mph!!! :reddevil :reddevil :reddevil Only problem is that I will have to sell my C3 Big Block for the ZR-1........ Its still a mental confusion.......... |
