Question for those with Aftermarket Seat

What did you do in order to maitain your airbag settings? Once you remove the stock power seat and disconnect the wires under the seat how do you keep the airbag lights from coming on the dash and not to throw any codes?
Is there a piece similiar to the CAGS defeat that can be plugged into the connector? I want to replace my stock seat, but also want to maintain my airbag.

Thanks in advance.

So this means that your airbag will not work in an accident? I am under the impression of if the light is one that the airbag system will not work.

Correct. I ware a 6 point harness, so I am not too worried. Oh my car is not driven on the street very much either

There is a work around I'm sure. For my 996 you had to disconnect the battery and then remove the fob from the area of the car. Then disconnect the seats, replace the seatbelt indicator into the receiver and the airbag light wouldn't come on. I'm sure it's something similar. Ask the guys at speedware motorsports. They sell aftermarket seat rails for the corvettes.

Do you have a number for Speedware?

ummm...my airbag light has never turned on. The only thing that doesn't work w/o the stock seat is the telescoping steering wheel??

did I miss something??

MBDowney 12-27-2006 11:38 PM

Perhaps the airbag light is a 2003 + up thing? I know the 2003 and up has that side impact airbag pod on the inside of the B pillar, perhaps there were some other changes as well to the airbag system...

I've swapped the stock driver's seat for a Sparco race seat in both my old 2000 Coupe, and now my 2002 Z06 and have never seen an airbag light... just the seatbelt light stays on.

FWIW

?????? My 2003 has the pods on the B pillars but there are no air bags in them. I had both of the B pillar covers out when I installed my roll bar and there was nothing there. No wires to disconnect. There is nothing on the build sheet or the window sticker about side impact air bags either.

:iagree: I have had the stock seat out of my '03 Z06 since it was new (300 miles) and I did not have the airbag light on until I installed a removeable race steering wheel and had to lose the SIR coil (clock-spring). I think this gentleman has something else going on.....I removed the seat from a 2004 CE Z06 for a race seat and additionally did not have "air bag" lamp.

Okay guys thanks for the replies. It sounds like I may have been given some wrong advise or at least advise for other models. I will try a little experiment by unplugging the connector the see what happens.
Thanks.

I'm probably way off base on those are for then, I've seen them in there in 2003+ C5's, guess I just assumed that's what those were for.

Sounds like we are agreed however, removing the stock front driver's seat shouldn't result in an airbag light.

Is there a FIX?

Is there a fix to install race seats and maintain the telescoping option, and seat-belt light.

Lancer033 01-04-2007 09:49 PM

I never looked into it much, but I would imagine that there is some type of a computer module under the seat that could be relocated somewhere else and still work. I just set mine all the way out before I unpluged it.

Ducati749 01-05-2007 01:26 AM

Yeah probably a way to go, i better go try and find a motor blown seat i can pull it from....sold mine oops....or will a service manual cover what is needed to dummy the thing so everything works....

Hey Jeff
I have the sparco in my 02, and no lights, what kind of seat did you get, give me a call if you need any help.

On my 01 Z06, I just replaced the factory seats with Corbeau A4's. To keep the light off, I cut the 3 wires (thin black, thick orange and thin orange) that went to power the motor on the factory seat. There is enough slack that if need be, I can splice them back together, if I swap the seats back. This way, I didn't have to worry about the seat belt indicator light being lit up.

zipity 01-05-2007 03:29 PM

Drove the car last week without the power seat module plugged in and no issues with any airbag lights. So when I replace the stock seat with aftermarket I shouldn't get any lights.

I guess I was given some incorrect information from another source.
Thanks you guys rock!

I am narrowed down to three seats;
Sparco Pro 2000
Corbeau A4 wide
Corbeau Forza
I want to retain stock seat belt use, so that is an issue. Any thoughts?
