Replacing the Multifunction switch...

Anyone have any tips on replacing this switch? Mine just took a crap and I have no dash lights nor do I have any tailights. Everything else works headlights, cruise, turnsignals, brakelights etc. all except the dash lights and park lights. I've search the archieves and found many to have the same problem and it turned out to be this switch. Any Ideas?:smash:

Its easy to replace. Remove the upper and lower shroud covers from the steering wheel where the switch is located. The switch will come out from there. Once the covers are off, its easy to see how to do it. Its close in there to the steering wheel itself, but it will clear. Takes all of 20 minutes to do. When you remove the screws from the lower shroud cover, looking up, make sure which holes you are putting the screw driver into.

Does it require any special tools?

My advice is to put the twilight sentinel to work, no multi switch needed for light operation!

Not sure if I have that option. What's the twilight feature?

JJ 86 03-09-2007 02:56 PM

nevermind. I don't have the twilight feature so that's not an option. Hopefully its not too difficult to replace the switch.

I think the manual says to remove the steering wheel. Is this not necessary? I got the shrouds loose on mine but could not get them off. I also need to replace the multifunction switch but for a different reason.

It did not require anything special on my '99. Its been a long time since I replaced it, but it was probably a simply open end wrench plsu the screwdriver to remove the screws for the shroud. I did not have to remove the steering wheel and it was an easy repair.

I found another thread:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...=multifunction
which has some more detailed instructions. He loosened the knee pad but this may have been to access the connector.

Thanks for the info guys! I'll be replacing the switch tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.:smash:

I can't believe how relatively easy this job was. My dad had the same problem on his 98 and the dealer charged him over $600 including the price of the switch to fix his. I'm glad I was able to fix this one myself. Thanks for all the info.:smash:

I've got the same problem on my 2k. Sonetimes the rear lights won't come on when headlights or on, but turning off/on a few times get em on. Now i have ALL lights working except for rr turn signals. Flashers, park/brake lights work in the rr but not turn signals. Anyone want to talm me out of installing a new turnsignal switch?. Found on Carquest for $140

I have a similar issue, except my lights will come on after 10 minutes or so... JJ, did yours behave like this, and did the switch fix the problem? Thanks!!

JJ 86 04-29-2007 12:00 AM

My lights would not come on at all. Only the headlights and turn signals would work and I didn't have any park, taillights, or dash lights. I replaced the switch and it cured the problem (knock on wood). No problems since. :smash:

I am experiencing the some of the same issues mentioned on this thread.

Can some provide a part number for the multifunction switch and where you purchased it? I have found the turn signal arm assembly for around $180.00. In the instructions from above it didn't note replacing the whole arm assembly.

Please advise.

Thanks!

I found it for $165 at gmpartshouse.com...I think I remember seeing it cheaper somewhere. I'll look again.
