Heads Up Display
Ever since i bought my 2001 Corvette, i tried turning on my HUD's, and i still havent figured out to work it, from what i tried, it seems like the fuse went out, i read the book, and i wasnt able to find the HUD Fuse section...has anybody have an idea or know what i can do, in able to make it work?
so basically, its not turning on...and the manuel doenst show me where to replace the fuse if it has one! |
The HUD has no external power. It gets all its needs from the Speedometer cluster via a single ribbon cable connection. Assuming you've slid the brightness control on the left side of the cluster, up, if you still don't see it, then I'll guess the HUD has failed or the cluster itself. Maybe someone had the cluster out and forgot to reconnect the cable?

damn that basically means i gotta find out if theres a loose cable around or its just damaged!...jeez..that sucks...

About a year go I noticed my HUD didnt work one morning. I thought it might have been a short or a fuese so I played around a little bit and found I slid the brightness all the way down when I was cleaning the dash the night before. Check the slide first. Good luck.

yeah i played with the left side alot...nothing comes up at all!...so now im thinking maybe the wires? but where are the wires located? i guess this will cost me, cause i might have to take it to the local vette shop |
you might also check the height adjustment I know mine if I mess with it can be adjusted out of my range of sight.....

It is very simple but overlooked. When I purchased my car, 1/2 of the hud was missing, until I found the adjustments. |
so how do i check the height?

Ah! the other classic is that you have turned off everything on the Display :) You can change the viewed information by holding down "Page" for a while it then cycles through the different things it can show you :)
So before you open your motor up. 1, Push slide up. 2, Turn light knob below it to Max 3, Play with the directional arrows too. 4, Press and hold page. If that dosnt work you could always try using yellow post-it notes.. writing various speeds on them and stick them to the window as needed  |
I just installed my new HUD last weekend and the whole process (including cutting and reinstallation) took about 5 hours. To remove your dash will probably take a few hours, but you'll want to get some good step-by-step instructions. The hardest part for me was actually putting the dash back in the car.
The problem you might face is that you get the dash apart and don't see a problem. It could be a bad HUD switch, wiring harness, gauge cluster connection, HUD unit failure etc. Most of these things won't be obvious by looking at them. You'd have to check each component/connection until you find the problem. |
