Fan Clutch
 

I just received my new fan clutch. I was told it was an Eaton. I don't see anywhere on it where it says Eaton. Is this a Chinese knock-off? I paid a little over $100.00 for it so I want to make sure I didn't get scr-wed.:eek: Anybody have an Eaton and can give me some numbers or info?

Ken, if it wasn't in a Delco box and cost less than $150, it is a reproduction-Specialty Parts in Alabama makes them-I have used them with no issues.

Where did you buy it, and did it come in a GM box with #3916141 on it? Got some photos?

No GM or Delco box. Came from Florida. Here is their Ebay ad:

Other than the (dark) finish, it looks OK to me. That one is 3916141R, and the other one they sell is the GM #3916141, with the correct (natural aluminum) finish, for a few bucks more. Maybe the "R" means "refurbished"? :thumbs:

They told me the R means Replacement for original.

The one that's closest in appearance to the original is the GM #3916141; there's no such thing as a GM part number with an "R" at the end. :rolleyes:

what does the front of that fan look like? Does it have a round or rectangle temp spring

The seller tells me Eaton no longer makes the fan clutch. It is sold under the name Wanton. Maybe sounds like "Won Ton" which is the stuff in Chinese soup? :lol:

He's giving you :bs ; the GM #3916141 is still made for GM by Eaton. :toetap:

Jersey boys, now you're talkin. I really don't care if it's Eaton or not as long as it works. Just pisses me off the guy advertises with the Eaton brand name. :thumbs:

Is this the rectangle temp spring you speak of? This is the one off my '66. I assumed it was original as none of the previous owners replaced anything.

That's a Schwitzer clutch - both the Eaton design (coil thermo) and Schwitzer design (flat bar thermo) were used interchangeably, depending on what was on hand in the plant at the time; they were different part numbers, but were calibrated and released for the same applications. The Schwitzer clutches were date-stamped on the O.D. of the flange where they bolt to the water pump hub. :thumbs:

I won't know until I get my car back from MSI. They are installing a rebuilt 370 rear end, Hurst shifter kit, factory clutch, and checking alignment/suspension. So it is sitting on my shelf until I get my car back.
