That might work, the stuff i have read said use matte for the whole thing. Use a roller on the matte to make sure and get all the bubbles out.

You might want to post this in the new "paint/body" section. Here's the link:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=138 There are some very knowledgeable folks there... be sure to say what year your Vette is as there are different fixes depending on what year (glass or SMC construction). Good Luck, kdlp |
My vette is a 1976...

I believe that makes it SMC rather than fiberglass construction. Could be some new products out there that would make your repairs stronger/longer lasting. Again, click the link in my previous post and I think you'll find some answers.
I'm in the "learning" curve myself but there are some experts in the Body/Paint Forum that have been doing body work on Vettes for years. kdlp |

It's important to get the bubbles out and excess resin, the strength is in the glass, not the resin. The roller works to take care of both. |
Checkering shows up after using fiberglass cloth for repairs. If you use fiberglass matte, you will not have checkers.
