Thank You.
Was a day when no one would take the time.. |
Yes, thank you.
Yesterday my wife and I had the rare privilege to ride with the Patriot Guard to the Riverside National Cemetary for the full honors burial of our friend's son SPC William Anthony (Tony) Farrar. Tony was an MP serving in Iraq. His carreer, hopes, dreams and future were ended May 11 by a roadside bomb which claimed his young life. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. His Mother and Father only have a folded flag and some bits of tin connected to ribbons to take his place. Not much for 20 years spent raising a little boy into a fine young man. His younger brother Ken is now in uniform too, ready to take his elder's place in Iraq. They were very close. I cannot pretend to fathom how heavy his heart must be. I wish him all the best and hope for his speedy return. While we were assembled in front of the flag draped casket listening to the minister speaking, somewhere else in the cemetary the distant volley of shots was unmistakable as we realized, all to soberly, that another Honor Guard was laying another young soldier to rest at the same time.....and, again as Taps was being played for Tony...yet another volley in another part of the cemetary.... Lest We Forget |
