Another LS1 swap thread (pics)
Alright, I finally had some time to get started on my race car. Damn season started a month ago and have been slammed.
Project was starting out as a LS1 with a ZF6, but McLeod let me down on a custom bellhousing. So I swapped over to a T56 using a Mcleod SFI bellhousing for racing. Yesterday started out pretty good, got the motor mounted and mocked up the transmission to get the tunnel cut. Today I'm modifying the trans for the bracket. I'm severely disappointed in the bracket and will be making my own. I plan on having the driveline for final mock up today. http://www.pnwzr1.com/images/projects/LS1a.jpg http://www.pnwzr1.com/images/projects/LS1b.jpg http://www.pnwzr1.com/images/projects/LS1c.jpg http://www.pnwzr1.com/images/projects/LS1d.jpg |
Awesome, do you have the PNs and price on the bellhousing/parts needed for it? Im afraid of using the stock one with my power level.
-Does it look physically bigger than the stocker as mine "just" fits in the tunnel. |
Kickass! Lookin' good, buddy! Glad you finally got some time to work on it!
|
am man after my own heart. this is my winter project in my race car. i would rather use the zf in mine you got the info on the bell houseing that didn't work out for you? how is it coming along
|
Isn't the bellhousing to block bolt pattern the same, just minus the top bolt on the ls block that isn't on the lt? Or is it a distance issue, like the flywheel sticks out too far for the zf clutch setup?
|
It's a several things issue.

Disntace, flywheel size are the two biggest hurdles.
|
So is the motor stock or ? Is this why you have been looking for exhaust pieces?

Headers will be custom fabbed and haven't figured out what I'll do for the exit portion of the exhaust. |
Cool project, keep us posted.
|
that looks like it will be BADASS!!!

Best valve covers I've seen on and LS engine
But where are you mounting the coils? |

There is plenty of room in there. I need to get some better shots of the motor in the bay and the space.
I plan on mounting the coils on the diagnal brace going from the hood mounts to the frame. |
You're welcome ;)
Good to see some progress on this car, and am looking forward to seeing it on a track sometime soon! Jeff |
How bout some specs on that motor, I know it has to be a monster.

The hurdles aren't major. They just take time or money to correct. Most
of these would go smoother if a parts list was made out of what works and what didn't. The other issue is so many people feel the need to reinvent the wheel. If you look at all of the LS swaps, none of them are the same. My major hurdle is the trans bracket I bought that was supposed to work didn't. It's a POS. So I'm spending time fabbing one up. and what the issue(s) are? Images? My vote is it will be a while before someone outdoes the exemplary job CHarris85Vette did in doggedly completing and documenting his swap. kpforce1 is up there, too, but still working towards completion, AFAIK. . |
 I knew somebody would make a LS series engine look good!!
