Your New C7 Corvette.

Is the Gm Corvette design team Obessed with making our Corvette look like a Ferrari?
Rear engines on these.

I sure as hell hope not.

they look amazing imho. the closer to the "ferrari look" the better. and thats pretty close. just keep our c5/c6 reliability!

Silverspeed 06-27-2007 04:43 PM

Absolutely awesome. Anybody notice the side windows aren't the same. The yellow ones look better IMHO.

I may have to re-read the article, but I thought these mockups were based on the possibility of a rear engine version (most likely not), and the more likely evolution of the C6 (on right), retaining the traditional layout.

DEagle 06-27-2007 04:53 PM

The yellow one looks like a photoshop of the Cadillac Cien concept from a few years back. I like the idea of 2 distinct Corvette models - a traditional front engine car that offers the best performance-per-dollar in the world and a mid-engined ultra-super-duper high performance model that might cost $100k+.

Don't forget, Zora always wanted a mid-engined Corvette, so it would honor his memory to build one. :flag:

It looks much more like a Cadillac Cien then a Ferrari.. That's not the first time I've seen a C7 photo in that style either.

Obsessed? No I don't think so. Chevrolet has long borrowed styling cues from Ferrari. Where do you think the "cove" on the '56 through '62 Corvettes originated? Take a look at photos of - if memory serves - the Ferrari 375 built for Ingrid Bergman in 1953. (or was it her husband?)

Take a look at the Chevrolet Monza (not the Corvair) and tell me Chuck Jordan didn't try in some subtle way to make it look like a Ferrari 365GTB/4 "Daytona".

Didn't Ferrari's egg-crate grille on the early cars, like the 340 Barchetta - perhaps more of Carrozzeria Touring's idea than Ferraris - look a lot like the grille that first appeared on the 1955 Chevy?

You'll never convince me that Chevrolet - albeit through their styling department - didn't emulate a lot of ideas from Ferrari. Saying that however, most of the early Ferraris were bodied by Italy's Carrozzeria (coachbuilders, bodyshops, stylists) so most of the credit really must point in that direction.

And, I might add, we're all the better for it.

WMark 06-27-2007 05:10 PM

Considering this is an artists rendering, and the in-the-flesh car would be less cartoonish, I kind of like 'em.

I looked back at all the buff magazines' predictions on the C6, and most weren't even close, so these will likely prove to be off base. But fun thinking about it.

BaBa Booey 06-27-2007 06:14 PM

I'd buy one

VET4LES 06-27-2007 06:16 PM

djfullshred 06-27-2007 06:35 PM

I'm thinking they are keeping the real C7 design ideas locked down pretty tight. All these supposed next Corvette pictures are :bs I think.

I have seen some of the "next gen" ideas that were lifted straight out of some of the concept pics that were from the C6 development too btw. I have a book that has a bunch of those pics, so some of those "new" designs are actually several years old.

Mangs 06-27-2007 07:26 PM

I really wish I could draw, cause I have a cool design floating around in my head.

gbgary 06-27-2007 08:05 PM

i like it too! you can definitly see the transition from the c6 in it.

Does that mean flying buttresses for the C7?

RC45 02-13-2008 08:23 PM

The one looks like a F-Body and the other is trying too hard to look European.

If I wanted a European car, i would just buy one, GM does not need to try build one.

Certainly they don't. They just need to build something people will buy. I have my fingers crossed for the success of the new Malibu.

C6XTACY 02-14-2008 11:44 AM

I like it. I do prefer the C5's/C6's however.

Considering that the Corvette has LONG been "a poor man's ferrari" that kicks the rich-man's ferrari's ass, I think it's quite fitting that corvette should continue to crib some of ferrari's style. Though I don't really see the ferrari inspiration in that picture. It looks more lamborghini. Ferrari vehicles aren't that angular.

Corvette has a long and storied history of taking ferrari cues. The tail-lamps, for example, are classic ferrari.

Something I'd like to see: A rear-window treatment like the new GTB (which has got to be the most beautiful vehicle in recent history)

I like it! It looks more agressive than a 430. I hope G.M. does a convertible Z06 version. It would be interesting with a flex fuel (hydrogen similar to the new Honda perhaps amoung the fuels) capability. Just supercharge it and convert the hydrogen from natural gas (which we have plenty of in this country). G.M. dependability, more agressive than a 430 looks; helping to choke the middle east of their oil income used to fund terrorists. The Muslim brotherhood wouldn't know what hit them.

black2000coupe 04-19-2008 07:09 PM

i dont like how the tail lights are off center from one another. other then that i think its a great looking car.!

ST Graveyard 04-30-2008 06:33 AM

It just isn't a Corvette ... It's a wannabe Lambo ... :ack:

I'll buy myself another C3 instead ...

i'd buy one in a heart beat!

I'd rather see a C3-based retro theme.... kinda like Chrysler did with the Challenger and Ford did with the latest Mustang.

park83 05-10-2008 04:31 PM

I really like the yellow one...but they should keep it front engine!

I'm not against a mid/rear engine GM vehicle; just don't name it Corvette, or give it Fiero-like quality.

Wrazor1 05-23-2008 09:59 PM

My god this C3 retro talk makes me want to puke. Lets keep the car moving forward... Can't we get past the aqua velva, gold chain C3 yet? Ugly.

And I'd love a mid engine Vette by the way!

Nooooo, for the love of... please no retro crap.

CandyVette 05-27-2008 12:14 PM

Yuck. :ack: I wouldn't buy either one. The one on the right looks like an old F-body 90's Camaro and the one on the left looks, well........just plain old ugly. I am so happy that GM keeps their new Vettes top secret so I at least know they won't look like that.

jpcourt 06-07-2008 10:38 PM

I think the yellow one looks great, I would put my money down for that. The red one does nothing for me.

I think the new "ferrari" look very much suits the Corvette, especially since it is considered "America's Supercar". That being said, if my knowledge serves me correctly, the Corvette was based somewhat after the Fords of the time....each car has a "base"...the Vette just took off its own way afterward.

C5/C6 reliability has been crap, to be honest....atleast so says Consumer Reports...:leaving:

Aqua Velva and Gold Chains!!!

Yeah, I agree with one thing here, leave the "retro" for the car makers who are trying to make something-of-nothing, like they are.

A mid-engine Vette would further the evolutionary steps that it has been taking over the decades...

..although, i'm only 90% for a mid-engine car....I think the Vette should remain "America's Supercar", but should not enter into the world of the "Exotic"....maybe one "specialty" version, at some point.

Bills Z06 06-08-2008 07:03 AM

they made retro theme cars like the challenger, camaro, and mustang because...They are PONYS!!

..Not the Vette..Its a Super car Wouldnt mind seeing a mid-engine Vette

Certainly they don't.

ve77er 02-17-2009 03:33 AM

i think a "poll" is in order here concerning the mid engine layout vs. the current front engine platform. if you remember the corvette history, zora arkus duntov tried for years to go with a mid engine layout but was always shot down due to corporate politics/policies. it would be really interesting to see a corvette finally go in this direction and see just what kind of world class supercar general motors could build.
