I bought a step child 64 tonight

I've been wanting a coupe for a while now and finally came across the right deal tonight. It's a 64 (sometimes refered to as the stepchild year here on CF, :D) red on red with just about everything original except the motor. I couldn't be happier. :D

Original radio works and the car even has the original spare underneath. The motor is not correct, but it is a 327 / 350. The car needs new bushings, shocks / springs, etc. (same thing I went through with the 63 vert when I got it). Also rims will be going soon if someone is looking for wire wheels......

The wife is coming to realize that she will never park in the garage again,

Congrats on the new family addition

My "stepchild" 64 has been upgraded and modded to hang right in there with the best of them. All that for half the price of a comparable 65-67. Deal of the century I'd say.

Nice looking Coupe. Congrats.

heck of a nice looking car. I agree, the wheels do look a bit dated, besides being a PIA to clean.

Congratulations on your new coupe  It's always fun to buy a new car and make it the way you want it. Looks like you have the makings of a real nice coupe. Enjoy it

My first one was a '64 Convertible that I bought in '78. Great car!

Yours looks nice.....what wheels are you going to use?

Great to see another 64. Nice ride.
Put some chrome Torq Thrust D's on it and it would be indentical to mine except for the interior color.

Can you post a pic of yours with the rims. I was thinking either a set of Torq Thrust or Cragers.

Now I just have to figure out how I am going to be able to slip one of those nice Street Shop Inc. conversion frames/suspension underneath it without the wife knowing  . (http://www.streetshopinc.com/index.html)

Here ya go. BTW- I have 15 x 7's on it with a 3.75" backspacing. I didn't have to worry about the larger backspacing due to the drum brakes.

'64 is a great year for red cars. :D Here's a pic with Crager wheels. I put 6 inch on the front and 7 on the rear.

Very nice addition

I wish my wife was as sympathetic and understanding as yours! Everytime I suggest a new addition she asks where I plan to park it since her Lexus spot is firmly reserved in the garage.

Maybe we should put together a group "Lift" purchase.

'64's a step child? Not to me--they're full blooded C2 Corvettes, IMO.

As for wheels, definitely consider TT D's, perhaps with American Racing Carlisle spinners.

Since you probably have drums all around you should consider the Torq Thrust Originals. A very nice looking and period correct wheel for your '64.

i still dont understand why some people think of the 64 as a lesser car

it is one of the best years IMO

-doesnt have the cheesy hood grills of the 63
-the side coves are much nicer than my 66 or the 65's
-so is the grill nicer than the egg crate of 66 and 67

i had a 64 fuelie coupe for a while, silver, knockoffs etc
it was a great car. wonder where it is now.

enjoy the ride:thumbs:

Never could figure out the stepchild moniker for the 64-probably concocted by some disenfranchised self loathing liberal:nono: . Mine is an L76, ermine white, red leather gut, It was Duntov's all time favorite, probably because he won the internal power struggle to have the stinger removed from the 63 rear window;) . Mine is arguably one of the nicest 64 vert's on the planet but won't take it to any shows for fear I may have to choke some pompous self-indulgent NCRS weaner...

ceastham1 07-31-2007 03:37 PM

64 is not a step child ... enjoy !!!
