Leather is too hot and sticky

Hi,

Just moved to Phoenix Arizona from Maryland.

And, no, there is no dry heat here in August.

Leather seats seem to heat up from the sun and feel like they might burn my legs when wearing shorts.

Also, after a short drive, the back of my shirt is all sweaty.

What do you guys in hot climates do? Cover the seats? With what?

Thanks for your help.

Jim

tint the windows, window shades when parked, use A/C

and if all else fails, keep a towel in the car and have the windows tinted dark enough to drive in your birthday suit

Park in the shade!

If you want to get seat covers, try 'Wet Okoles'. They are custom fit and made of wet-suit material [neoprene ?].

They never get hot. I had them, so I know.

Don't have any problems with my Titanium interior. Every nice day it sits at the gym with the top down. I get it with gym shorts on.....

We suffer. I hate leather because of this. I would go for fabric, or maybe A/C cooled seats like my buddy's Navigator.

Park in the shade, use a sun screen, but too dark a tint is dangerous if other drivers can't see your face through the side windows.

Leather will get hot during the summer now if yours is sticky I'm not to about to ask what you've been doing in the car.

Seriously though, tint the windows. It helps a lot and it gets rather hot here in Texas. For temporary use I also have a couple of "Corvette Seat Towels". They're great for when I'm done working out at the gym and don't want sweat on the leather.

Also get a custom sunshade that many of the forum vendors carry.

Heat is bad enough, but heat with humidity is a killer. I really hate leather. My girl loves it, because shes always cold. She has heated leather seats in her acura. For me, I put sate covers over those darn leather seats, 10 minutes after I left the dealer, and my ass was wet by the time I got there.... :)

Leather SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey GM, if by any chance you are reading this, PLEASE offer a cloth seat for those of us who prefer to not have our backs and cracks wet while driving....

Why do people like this stuff so much?

A light colored car cover(preferrably grey or silver) will dramatically reduce interior temps. It gets up to 110 in N.Ca frequently, and with a cover I find the temp to never be over ambient as compared to upwards of 140+ degrees if the car sits in the sun uncovered.I can jump in on the leather, and touch all knobs and surfaces comfortably. As an added benefit your car will stay very clean.I arrive at work five minutes early, hit the bugs with a quick detailer and microfiber cloth after a duster use, and the cover is placed. After work I am rolling in a clean car,and the time is more than offset by the fewer number of times per month I need to wash the car. Also cats, birds and prying eyes no longer a problem!:)

Tint the windows, buy a windshield sun shade, seat covers for when I put the top down on warm days...

I'm in Tucson which is a bit cooler and less humid than Phoenix but it still gets extremely hot. As you discovered, our monsoon season does bring-on the high humidity as well.

Tint your windows; use a windshield sun shade whenever you park; carry a towel if need be; and, crank the a/c.

The only towel I carry is for drying my car...not to use as a seat cover. I'd never sacrifice my leather seats for cloth but I'm not overly bothered by the heat. In fact, I usually cruise without the a/c until it finally becomes too hot.

During the hot summer months if at all possible, learn to drive mostly in the early morning or after sunset.;)

I've never really had the heat problem people are talking about. Here in Austin it can get pretty darn hot, but the AC cools the car down fast enough and the leather seats do not hold THAT much heat. Just a few minutes and the seat is body temp. Now plastic seats....thats different.

eddie44 08-04-2007 12:06 AM

As said above, tint with sun shade and A/C on high does it for me.

One of the local Phx News programs did a less than scientific study on interior heat. For those of you that say "don't buy black its hot" that is total BS! They found it's the interior color that effects the interior temp most.

After 50 yrs in Phx, my C6 is black with a titanium interior :D

Amen to that! Give us good Republican cloth seats. I hate leather seats.
