StingRay Ray- No turning back
Rough. Real rough. But I'm finally getting the ball rolling. Can't permanently fix it until I get the front on to make sure body lines work. I will keep kind of a photo journal for those who are interested. I know most of you think I'm crazy. Maybe I am a little. But I have a ton of fun doing stuff like this. Can't leave anything alone.

wow, that actually looks real good.

Definitely going to follow this thread, did you decide which way you were going? I really liked this idea when you had the other thread!

Very interesting. Maybe a vert.in the future?
|
Cool! Something a little different.
IMO, Lose the flying buttresses in the back - chop 'em like the red picture. |
nice! i say keep the rear butresses and front fender flares. or else it'll just look like a bastardized c2
|
 looking good
|
Looks good so far:thumbs:
|
Very interesting project! Please keep us up to date on your progress.
|
I like it! Keep us in the loop.
|
Great project
I can't wait to see the result  |
Very interesting!
|
finally, a modded C3 that that has the potential to look good. Keep the updates coming!
|
I like the lines from the side. Curious to see how the back deck comes out.
|
I'm glad you didn't listen to any of the haters........that's going to be nice
|
looks really good, keep us updated with pics:thumbs:
are you gonna stretch the roof like the C3 ore cut it? |
Pretty cool...I'm going to be watching to see how it works out.

I think you have the majority of the Forum Member's backing you on this one. Always a couple of nay sayers. :nono:
Go for it and keep us posted with lots of photos. Not too fond of the bubble back window on this project, but I do think something needs to be done with the squared off look of the current version. Love the looks of a convertible! |
It should turn out fine. It's glass, and the sky is the limit with glass.
|
Kinda like a reverse morph of the C1 into the C2 when the early 60's cars (60 - 62??) had the C2-ish rear with the C1 front. You gonna put chrome bumpers on the rear or do some cool custom molded affair?
Best of luck |
What do you think about adding a Stinger hood?

Correct. The car is a 1977. As far as the hood, I have a flip front end with an L-88 hood. I'm really amazed at how some of the body lines match up. I should have the front end trial fitted by the end of the weekend. The buttresses are going. Will have a roof line similar to a c3vert hardtop.
I photoshopped it to a the ride height I plan and wanted to see it with larger diameter wheels. I have a set of staggered 19" tires that I will be putting on it. Thanks for all of the positive comments. Scott http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...DSCI0001.1.jpg |
Cool. I really like it, and yes I think your crazy.
You probably already know this, but when comparing to the rendering, it looks like the rear clip needs to come down another 3 or 4 inches so the "bumper", fenders, and wheel openings are at the right height in relation to the center of the rear axle. At that point the rear deck won't line up, but I would worry about the deck and butresses after the clip is set at the right height. Keep it coming. You're inspiring me to chop my 82 into a vert. |
HOLY SHIZNIT!!! Yep your certified nuts, but it is going to NICE!! Keep us posted!
|
also done with a C4
this is one being done with a C4 as a platform

Wtf ?
|
diggin it!
|
I'm usually not big on grafting body parts from different generations, but this does look like it has a lot of potential. Pay real close attention to how body lines, bumpers, etc all line up and work together so you have a seamless integration and not a frankenstein. Work slow and don't be afraid to do things over till it's right.
Fun project. Glenn |
I like the photoshop one & the one finished C4/C2 so go for it. Can't wait to see more. I wish I could do work like that.
|
Another Custom..... COOL
|
Mako,
That car is a work of art. I spent an hours on your site. You are very talented. Scott |
i hate to be the only person with a negative input, but i like them the way they were, BUT follow the dream!

Compliments only, please. On the positive side, the guy is talented. |
Allright. It's cool. and with near 1/4 million C3s on the road today, one less ain't gonna hurt anybody. The amount of time it's gonna take to get ti to work is going to more then cover any critisizem that might get said about the idea. Go for it  . will be one of a kind,, for sure!

Almost have the front end hinged. I'm pretty sure I'm going to change up the straight bodylines of the C2 and kind of blend them with the C3 bodylines. Hopefully the best of both worlds. Both are beautiful cars. I snapped a pic and couldn't resist rolling the wheels up to get an idea of what they will look like. I think they will turn out nice. I wasn't sure about the spinner but think they are definitely the way to go now that I see it.
Scott http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../DSCI00011.jpg |
|
Your getting there :)
|
I lowered the car and have started adding the rear arches on the fenderwells. Thought I would go ahead and share some pics. Hopefully I will get to start glassing this week. When I bought the rear end I didn't realize that the 67 had the center back up light. I'm deleting that and moving the gas filler hole forward about 2 5/8" to match the c3 gas tank.
Scott http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...3/DSCI0007.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../DSCI00022.jpg |
Now your makin it happen! It's gonna be Cool!
|
Looks great so far, I like the new wheels and the spinners they give it the C2 look.

Progress has been slow. I've had other home projects that are taking priority. Here are some update pics.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...porsche002.jpg Am an idiot and did not realize that the 67 was the only year to have the back up light which I did not want. Glassed it in. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...porsche001.jpg Had to move up the filler cap to match the stock tank. Also grafted in the 77 flip cap. Need to finish all this with some filler. and clean the glue off where I supported it so I could glass it in. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...porsche005.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...porsche003.jpg Tried the wheels on. I am happy with the wheels but need a larger diameter rear tire. Will post more pics once I get more done. Scott |
That '67 backup light is a desirable option the other C-2's from '63-'66 wish they had on their cars. I would of left it on the car but thats just my opinion. What are you going to use for a backup light on your project?
|
|
Make it look like the red one shown earlier in the thread and I think it will be SWEET.
|
looks good keep the updates rolling in:thumbs:
|
starting to look really good now:thumbs:
|
Long time since I've updated. Been slow going. I have the flares I made roughed it. Cleaned up the gas tank filler. Filled the 67' backup light. I also had to modify the exhaust filler panel to match the c3 exhaust. Still need to work on it. I am permanently attaching the rear portion over the next couple of days then I will start on the sail panels. Sorry for the dust. Daylight is short in the evenings and I just wanted to snap a few progress pics.
Scott http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...3/DSCI0022.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...3/DSCI0024.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...3/DSCI0026.jpg |
I like that rear shot. Pretty cool. I look forward to more updates and seeing all the lines of the car come together.
|
nice work, the back is really coming together
|
you know, one of the problems with the3 C3, isthat I allways felt that the nose is too long,, that extra foot and a half can be trouble. this confirms that the C3 would look just as good, and IMHO more sporty/ shorter, with way less nose.
thought about putting C3 lights in the rear clip? might look cool and tie it together well. C. |
Thought about c3 lights but I'm going to run stock c2 rear bumpers and have always loved the c2 tail light reflection in the chrome.
Scott |
That thing is gonna confuse the schizz outta some people. It had me messed up when the first pic loaded, I was completely confused then I took a look and I'm kinda groovin on it. Gotta see it when it's done.
|
I'm diggin it bro!
Can't wait to see it done! |

 Looking really sharp. This is an awesome concept.

Saw your original posts discussing the concept a few months back. Congrats on moving the concept forward, and quickly. My hats off to the vision, skil and effort. Looking forward along with everyone else to seeing the progression to finish.
Dare to be different...     http://www.vettetech.com/projects/c3gs/be/fs-be-20.jpg |
All I can say is I like what I see so far. Can't wait to see it when it is finished. Based on what I see you are going to have one hell of a car. I have to give you a lot of credit for what you are trying to do. Keep us posted.
|
Geez I'm really surprised at the positive responses you have gotten!!! I commend you for the vision and obvious hard work but I don't think I like the look of it.This is the first time I've seen this thread so maybe it will grow on me.:yesnod:
Keep up the  work. |
I got one sail panel done and the other one ready to bond and filler but it has been too cold and rainy to finish it. I played with the bodylines in photoshop since the weather isn't permitting me to work on the car. I think the lines will come out nice.

I wonder what a C3 would look like with just the nose. would help with parking down town. I like the look of the nose, personaly.
|
Neat, it works for me.
|
I think this is going to be one amazing looking ride....totally unique, and totally corvette. Love it. You're doing a great job, keep the updates coming! What type of wheels are those BTW? They really add to the car.
|
They are aftermarket, staggered, bmw replica wheels.
Scott |
I love it, I generally love customs because the stock ones are a dime a dozen, you've seen one, you've seen them all
What I see with the guys with negative comments is that when you look at their profiles they almost all have POS rides with rust everywhere and flaky paint or no vette at all |

:iagree: That's the best shot to show what it'll eventually look like and I too am a huge fan of the stubby nose over the long C3 front end. Great project to watch and take inspiration from. |
Did the rain stop yet? C'mon, can't wait to see more pictures of the progress
|
If this were just described to me verbally, I would think it was nuts. However, seeing the pics, I gotta say, I LIKE IT.
|
Finally got some time to work on the car. Between long days at work and bad weather it has been slow going. I got a little more work done on the sail panels and worked a little more on hood alignment. The stock 77 hood matches up with the new hood well and will soon be attached. It ain't pretty but it is starting to look a little more complete.
Scott http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...3/DSC00078.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...3/DSC00079.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...3/DSC00083.jpg |
Not pretty?
i think it looks great! thats gonna be a sweet ride:cool: |
I just saw this thread for the first time and I've got to say WOW:thumbs:
Would you mind posting more in process pics that show how you are doing the glass work? I am planing on doing some hacking on mine also and can use as many tips and reference photos as I can get. I am very interested in seeing how you pull all the body lines together and get them to blend. Keep up the good work. |
Really neat! As long as you keep the lines it should look like a super custom job.
|
That just looks awesome! Can't wait to see it done.

This time I used cardboard templates to create a buck for the side of the body. Covered those with heavy cardboard paper, duct tape(yes, I'm bubba), then foil to ensure release after fiberglassing. At this point it is ready to fiberglass then lots and lots of sanding. Pretty easy just really time consuming and usually frustrating. |
That's a really cool way of blending the C2 nose and butt to the C3 lines. Very cool look...
***Watching intently*** |
I really like the looks of this one

This thing is going to look SICK - for all you oldies out there, here is a definition of "sick"
Sick: Now used as the newest word to replace cool. Something that you've never seen before. You're doing an awesome job, I wish I would have seen this thread before I started repairing my body a year ago - I would have done the same thing:thumbs: |
That's going to be sweet

I can't stop looking at this picture, that's how much I like it:lol: |
Opinions please.
I originally was planning to take off the sport mirrors and replace them with chrome ones from an early c3. Then I saw this picture and it got me thinking the sport mirrors don't look that bad even on the earlier body style. I'm still on the fence soooooo, what you think? Thanks, Scott http://www.digitalcorvettes.com/corv.../602/GSC21.jpg |
I vote for the sport mirrors. it gives the car that race look. question how is all that extra fiberglass attached to the side of the car? what would keep it from getting stress cracks... oh if I didn't say it before great job love the look.
|
Looking great! Sport mirrors for sure. What size wheels and tires did you go with?
|
Thanks for the updated pics. It's gonna be awsome!
I like the sport mirrers. |
Your progress is amazing - looking good.
I saw this car while driving, in traffic while on vacation in FL back in Oct. Just found the picture and thought I'd share - nice car, don't want to knock another guys work but yours already looks better. That exhaust hanging down below is :ack: but the fuel door is ...wonder if the trunk works? http://www.knology.net/~holtzclaw/images/8158.JPG |
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...3/DSC00133.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...3/DSC00134.jpg I finally got some more work done. The door opens and closes freely after some trial and error experimenting with the front door opening. I need to bond the skins to the body and then bondo time. I've also been experimenting with a satin silver color. I tested it on whats left of the old hood and plan on adding a gloss black racing stripe tomorrow. I first fell in love with the satin silver when seeing the bmw z4 coupe concept. Hopefully with be undating more soon. Comments, critique welcome. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...3/DSC00135.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...2283883584.jpg This Vette is awesome and uses glossy silver but still has the satin look. I think it looks great with the black wheels;) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...3/DSC02017.jpg |
I bought a set of junk bumpers a couple of months ago. I thought I was buying a complete set of fronts/rears, but it turns out it was two sets of rears. I got them very cheap because they are in very poor condition. Rather than spend $400 on a set of usable front bumpers that would probably have to be modified to fit the custom front end and certainly need to be rechromed for that price, I decided to modify the rear bumpers. This is the fruit of about an hours worth of labor. Not finished, just tacked heavy. I'm working on figuring out how to make them removable for inspection/night use because they hide my headlights. Ideas?
