Carbon Ceramic Brakes and New Volk Racing TE37 Wheels Installed

 I thought I'd share a couple of cool new, and unique mods with you guys.

First, I just installed the only set of Volk Racing Wheels made specifically for the Corvette in the world.:D All of you former and current import enthusiasts and owners will appreciate these. For those who don't know, these wheels are made by Rays Engineering, which is one of the most popular wheel manufacturers in Japan. They are 18x9.5 and 18x10.5 TE37's in Gunmetal grey. They weigh in the 17lb. range I believe...extremely light, fully forged, one-piece wheels. Many race cars in the Super GT (formerly JGTC) run these wheels, and they make wheels for some of the OE Tuning houses such as NISMO, TRD, etc. They are beautiful in person, and the pics don't do them justice. The nicest part is that they clear our BBK with no spacer!

The second mod is putting our StopTech Carbon Ceramic Brake System back on the car. We've had it off and on for testing over the past year. It's back on now, which means I just shed about 36 lbs. of unsprung weight from the car vs. our iron rotor system. This system is now available for purchase at a retail of $14,999. Six piston front, four piston rear calipers. They are insane, and I love them...very, very much.

I just noticed that my pics are sponsored by turbo civics...which is pretty cool in its own right...

They wheel weights are impressive...but the style, not a fan of....

and 15k for brakes or brakes and wheels?....Either way.....That is just a lil' insane for me.....

C5Z 09-04-2007 09:26 PM

Please PM me if you need me to field test these long term for you.

Coming from the Supra/EVO/240 background myself I nearly spit out my Dr. Pepper when I saw "TE37's" on the Corvette Forum.

Brakes only...very similarly priced to Porsche PCCB system as a stand-alone purchase. Regardless, insane and unique is the whole point. :D

I'll get right on that...why don't you wait by the phone? ;)

Nice! I figured there were some other JDM fans around here who would appreciate this. I'm of Integra Type R / 350Z descent myself. :D

You've got 18x10.5 on the rears with 275/35R18 tires made by Kumho ????? I'm gonna guess you've got 245s on the front ... my Z06 will out brake you with the stock set-up ... and it doesn't cost me no $15k .... typical ricer solution .... all bling ... no performance.

MarkT 2002 09-05-2007 02:20 AM

I think the close-up is of the right FRONT wheel.

BlackZ06 09-05-2007 02:44 AM

Even if that's the front wheel ... crappy tires ... with my Eagle F1 Supercars I can still out brake that set-up.

bizzmeister 09-05-2007 03:20 AM

Very nice car man!!

Look what came in for me after 5+ months of waiting. They were going to go on my Evo but they'd NEVER fit the corvette with this AGGRESSIVE as hell +15 offset.

18x10.5's all around with + 15 offset

The picture shows the FRONT tires. BTW, have you ever tried Kumho tires?

PA Z06 09-05-2007 06:37 AM

Cobra4B 09-05-2007 08:52 AM

Sweet :)

DanielZ06 09-05-2007 10:43 AM

I had a 630whp Integra myself. I love the Time Attack TE37s personally.

I don't particularly like the Volks on the Corvette. I much prefer my CCWs. :D

The best part about this statement is that the wheel pic he posted is of the front!! You might want to learn the car before you make comments about it.

I am pretty sure he runs on r-compounds at the track. Besides Kumho MX's are great street tires. I have been very happy with them on our Z. He is a stoptech rep so why wouldn't he sport the lastest and greatest they have to offer?? I have read several of his posts and he really knows what he is talking about.

That being said: I wouldn't spend this kind of money unless I was running a full blown race car. In that case I'm sure it would pay for its self in a few seasons in pad/rotor life.

It is the front, look at the plastic flap in the picture towards the bottom right.

The brakes are the black thingies behind the wheels that say "Stop Tech":willy:
