Vettemods (Voztech) radar mount - some pics for ya
 

Had the adhesive mirror mount for about two years but was not happy with it for two main reasons:

1. The mount won't stick to the mirror - kept falling off
2. The detector is not securely held to the mount - so even if the mount did not fall off the mirror, the detector would eventually wobble enough to fall off the mount.

So I found this mount which may of the guys here also use. It is known around the web as the VOZtech mount, also known as the VETTEMODS mount. It is just a properly moulded piece of aluminum, nicely backed with felt so it will not scratch anything on the car. Comes with an extra long mounting screw, and you just screw it into the visor mounting bracket.

Nice advantages of this mount:

1. the mount doesn't fall off the car !
2. the detector doesn't fall off the mount !
3. if mounted on driver's side, puts the alert lights right in front of you, so you're less likely to miss them.

final view with Invisicord. this is an old 8" cord I had already. If you want to do this mount method, you might want to get a 20" cord so you could hide the cord better than this. But you still can't see it under normal circumstances.

Two drawbacks:

1. if you want to put it on the passenger's side, you can't - it won't fit because of the Onstar box (at least on my '05 vert)
2. you can't put your visor all the way down with the detector mounted.

Bottom line: I really prefer this --- having a nice study screw holding my $300 detector up, so it's not falling off in the heat all the time. Having used the adhesive mirror mount, then this one, I'm much happier this way.

for me not a problem - I have never once used a visor anyway.
but if you're a person who needs to use the visor, then this obviously is not the right setup for you.

it seems like the manufacturer expects you to mount it on the passenger side, but like I stated above, this is NOT possible because of the big honkin' ONStar box that's glued to my windshield in that spot. Wish I could get rid of that box any way, but I like the detector on the driver's side.

I have this mount installed on the passenger side of my 06 coupe that has on star, there were not any installation problems with this location. My Valentine radar detector functions fine from there.
The only possible problem with this mount is vibration but I solved this with a rubber tip that is used for chair or furniture legs. The rubber tip is 1/2 inch in diameter and is tapered, it is 1 inch tall.
I chose this mount and the mounting location because I am 6' 5" and did not want anything limiting my field of view . This location does not affect the passenger' view or vision.

Thought it worth mentioning that this bracket does not "click onto" the Valentine One. It does work as a visor mount for V1, but from my experience it is a little Mickey Mouse since the V1 plastic adapter needs to be reversed and the vettemods bracket just shoves in with nothing to hold it securely. Adding the included Velcro stickers does serve to make it snug and therefore more secure however. Still, a bit pricey for a hunk of bent metal that shoves in IMO.

not true. I have Onstar on my 05 and mine is on the passenger side (so I can use my visor if needed). I will agree with everything else you said though, its a great product.

I have an '05 and this mount works great. I use it with an Escort 9500i and Invisacord. No OnStar, so works great on the passenger side - still plenty easy to see the RD and use all of the buttons. Only thing I did was use some LocTite to the mounting screw (mount got a little lose before I used the LocTite, no problems now). Cheers - Jim

ps - 18" Invisacord works great - seems like you would only need the shortest one, but it takes some length to hide the cord up under the windshield frame.

I have been thinking of getting one thanks for the evaluation. I agree that it is pricey for a piece of metal but it is the corvette tax in action and it is a free market yada yada

I have mine mounted in the same place using the invisicord, only I'm using the suction cups.
I have them positioned so that the detector falls just under the tint line.
The detector has not fallen once. :thumbs:
I have the same problem with the visor, can't bring it all the way down, but it's a small price to pay. I agree with you Bugman. I would rather have the detector in my sight line and within reach of the mute button.

I think what you did looks good but I have problems with the visor not being able to move all the way to the windshield. As stated in another post this looks dangerous. I have been using a greatlakes mount for 2 years and have never had a problem with it. It has never come off even though my EZpass has fallen off my windshield a dozen times in very hot weather. :cheers:

Hi everyone, thanks for the discussion on our mount. It is true our brackets were designed for use on the passenger side, and that is the recommended install location. Many like Bugman, however, choose to place it on the drivers side. (PS. Thanks for the pics and install review!)

One other note. The bracket should work fine with OnStar, if there is an issue with the bracket hitting the Onstar module, please contact us for a replacement, your unit may be out of spec.

Our mount is specifically designed to click onto the V1 adapter plate. It should not just be shoved on. You also should not be reversing the mounting plate.

When installing, please remove the V1 included visor mounting plate. Lift the plastic tab holding the metal visor clip on, and slide the clip off. Next you will insert the silver tab of our bracket into the same slot that the V1 clip was removed from. The slot in the tab of our bracket is designed to allow the plastic V1 tab in the center of this mounting plate to click into place, securing the mount to the plate. At this point the plate can be slid back onto the detector. Please contact me if there is an issue using the mount appropriately and I will exchange it immediately.

I am getting ready to order both your bracket and the Invisicord for a Valentine One. I will be installing on the driver's side like Bugman has here. I am just used to having the lights in my direct line of vision (and to quickly attack the MUTE button for all those damn Food Lion stores...).

Do I REALLY need a full 20-inch Invisicord? With the mirror plugin point on the driver's side and the power port on the right side of the V1, this would seem to be WAY too long, even after you tuck it in at the windshield header.

I will order as soon as I can be sure that I am getting the right length cord.

VetteLurker, Our bundle is only available with the 20" Invisicord. You likely do not need 20", but you will save buying both in the bundle so the extra length is not costing you anything. If you prefer the shorter length you can order the bracket from us and the cord directly from Invisicord.com. We choose not to stock all the lengths, instead we offer the 20 at a substantial discount if purchased with our bracket.

It sounds like a 20" cord will work fine (as Bugman recommends in the first post).

As long as any excess cord can be stuffed up in the header without issue, I think I'll take you up on your combo offer. :thumbs:

I have a question, i just mounted this bracket yesterday and noticed the little orange light that normally lights up the shifter/center console now also lights one of the corners of my escort 8500, it looks like the mount puts the detector in the path of the little light. Is there a way to fix this as its kind of annoying to have one corner of my radar detector lite up. Thanks
