Perhaps The Ultimate C6 Journey?!

You will at a quick glance, perhaps be put off from reading this post, but please do bear with me as I share
with you, perhaps one of the ultimate C6 Corvette journeys!

This journey will see my new Corvette C6 travel half way around the world, with perhaps, even a few ‘firsts’
along the way, so please indulge me as I set the stage.

As you know, being a member of this Forum shows we all have much in common. We may all come from different
walks of life, indeed, many different countries, but we all come together as we are all very passionate about
our Corvettes and we meet here to share our experiences.

We all know that feeling of the excitement of ownership and naturally we've all experienced the anticipation
building up to that moment we take delivery of our cars.

Coming from England, but having been a regular visitor to America for the past 25 year since I first toured
25 US Cities whilst working with the rock group Genesis, I see it as a second home that I care deeply about.
Indeed, I flew my partner’s families and mine to America to see us be married in Indiana and did so to enable
all my American friends to attend.

We still vacation almost every year within a variety of States and these days, I am able to travel to
California to bring English clients to America to experience the 'American Dream' whilst indulging their
shared passion for sports cars as we hire a fleet of Corvettes for one and all.

So why do I feel the need to tell you this? Well you should by now understand how much I love America and
Corvettes, and can perhaps sense that I feel great pride and feel privileged to be able to spend so much time
in my second home.

With that in mind, you may be able to understand just how elated I am at this time as my wonderful C5 is making
way for my 'ultimate' C6. Naturally that is enough to be celebrating, but magnify that anticipation multiple
times when I tell you that I have bought the car from a fellow Corvette Forum member and that this coming
Friday, I will make the journey to collect the car.

This is no ordinary collection though as it will see me fly from London, England to Florida to collect my new
car in person!

Through the help of a variety of members of this Forum, but most importantly, Michael a Forum member who was
selling his car, I am about to indulge in one of my ultimate dreams and the end result will see, to the best
of my knowledge, the very first C6 Z51 in Atomic Orange on British soil!

To add to the fact that my car will not only travel from it’s first home in Florida, right across the Atlantic
to it’s new home in England, it will through my work, see the sights of the French Riviera, the Monaco racetrack,
the French, Italian & Swiss Alps, the German autobahns and Black Forest, the Fjords of Norway, the Scottish
Highlands and all that in it’s next year of life.

Naturally many hurdles have of course stood in the way to get the car to England, but they have almost now
all been over come and now I just await the news this week that will tell me if I have insurance cover to put
the icing on my cake.

To be able to drive the car around Florida, visiting many of the destinations already recommended to me in a
previous thread to photograph the car as it starts it’s new life of global traveller.

Should that fail, the car will have to travel by transporter to the port, which although it would be a great
shame not to drive it on American soil, I will be able to collect it and deliver it for the shipping to England,
all very exciting in itself.

Through this thread, I'd like to share my journey with those that may be interested and perhaps it may assist
others in taking a big step to obtain their ultimate dreams.

I'll document it with as many photos of our journeys around the world as I can to liven up my text, and will
start with a couple of photos taken by Michael to show it’s first home and a collection of locations the C5
visited along the way.

I hope you enjoy the forthcoming journey as much as I will!

Ok, we have this in writing. If you do not produce any pictures of this we'll sue...:toetap:
If you are that familiar with the USA then you know a lawyer can be found to do this...

How are you? Great to have a traveling Corvette story.

We will have something in common, as my C6 has been to Europe with the C6 Registry trip to Lemans in '05. So both of our Z51 C6 Corvettes will have had legs on both sides of the Atlantic.

Just one question. Why no European rear fog lights on your Vette? I know they are available. Are they not required in England?

Jim

Thanks for everyone's kind words and enthusiasm so far, very kind of you.

Jim, so glad you were able to bring yours to Europe, I bet that was quite something?! :)
With regard to the rear taillights, they are being changed once it arrives in England which will be
sometime during December (I hope!)

It will then go to have the Governmental requirements fulfilled for it’s SVA test. More on that later....

Wonderful story! I am jealous of your C5 and I am sure I will be jealous of your C6 with all the great places they have been and will be going to. I agree with the earlier threads, you must document your travels for us through both words and pictures. Thanks

Shrike6 11-12-2007 10:16 PM

I got to take my C6 to Germany, Normandy and LeMans this summer.
Got to meet some great Corvette folks at camp Corvette, some from the UK. Driving the 'vette in Europe was great fun! You're going to love it on the autobahn too! Have a great time and post pictures.

Atomic UK 11-13-2007 06:00 AM

The travels will be extensively photographically documented from this Saturday onwards as I have
a keen interest in photography now, having bought a Nikon D40 in the summer, so the images will
be far better than those I took of the C5.

Hi Tom

Thanks for that, I didn't know about the show, although their is another I think on the west coast
of the state the same day?

Can you let me have more details?

Naturally I'd love to make one of them, but it will hinge on if I get the insurance cover in place,
but it would be really great to meet some of you guys!
