Nice Cheap Mod
Just wanted to thank the guys for leading me to doing my brake calipers. What a difference it makes in appearance.
I was pointed to Tire Rack for their G2 Paint Caliper Kit, and as I was told I got my own set of paint brushes, with fine tips to get into the small spaces. Chapstick to coat the letters. Out of this experience I can also add that you should have a window or glass razor which makes it easy to scrape the paint off of the lettering. A block sander with fine sandpaper to really clean the letters to make them standout. The only thing I encountered was that someone must have used a impact gun to install the left rear tire, the lug nuts were hard to come off and one of the nuts had a partial stripping of the edges, I had to use a 3/4" deep socket and a hammer to nail it on to remove that nut. Luckily I had 20 new lug nuts which actually were for my BMW both share the same 12mm x 1.5 size. One kit is enough to do all 4 calipers, since I live in Hawaii I ordered 2 kits just in case. I have one spare kit, but may use it later in about 6 months to give another coat (which is the shelf life). Some pictures of the end work. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...ds/Mods002.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...ds/Mods001.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...ds/Mods005.jpg |

Total time working was about 5 hours but that was with 2 coats and I am anal and I also had to deal with that stuck lug nut. You should be able to do it in about 2-3 hours.
Peter, I need to post up pictures of the front bracket, still waiting for my vanity plates to come in. Thanks for that top notch product, I took it out and it is impressive, not cheap plastic. Thanks again for helping me out. Hey Rick, hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving, SS pads hummm. |
Lovely

There are almost all the colors you can think of with the G2 kit from Tire Rack I initally was going with black to match the car. But after looking at the other cars with Red I had to go with Red, I have seen cars with the yellow and it IMO doesn't match unless you have velocity yellow car.
What I like about the G2 kit is the shine that comes out. There are other kits out there and a lot cheaper but they do not have the finish of the G2 kit. I know that I am anal and I would say that most of us that are here are anal or we wouldn't be here as we wouldn't car about our Vettes. Thanks for the compliments, I just appreciate others helping each other and like for me steering me to the best products and the helpful hints to make the job easier. |
Very nice job - looks great!!

Good Job... looks great..

G2 is the only way to go. It is a 2 step epoxy. The finish looks just like powdercoat.
