Ever dyno an Lt1 with SLP shorties?
I hear everyone saying they didn't feel much of a gain, but no one says that they have dynoed the car after installation. Would like to see some numbers just to prove they do not help.:yesnod: Longtubes are not an option as I have to run converters, and the additional cost of custom converters is too much. Thanks. :D

Re: Ever dyno an Lt1 with SLP shorties? (SLOWBUSA)
I put on a set of SLP shorties and removed the cats on my 1992 a few years ago. I gained 33 hp and 42 lb/ft of torque, from performing only those mods. My 1/4 mile time went from 14.01 @101 to 13.56 @ 109, so I would say I FELT a difference! :D

:eek:Thanks for the info. I always here people say they don't feel much of a difference, but I never here dyno results. Thanks again.
Oh yeah, I like your Kawi Turbo. I have a Hayabusa. There is a bike like yours that is raced at our local track, and that bike always has one of the top trap speeds of the night. :D [Modified by SLOWBUSA, 4:05 PM 11/24/2001] |

SLOWBUSA,
KLLRVET's results are interesting, but they also figure in the removal of cats which you will not do. I would not take this data as any refutation of the general consenus that merely replacing the stock manifolds with shorty headers does little or nothing. Really, he said he removed the cats! That was why the big gain. Who knows maybe they were partly clogged.

I had muffler elims, an adjustable FPR, a K&N with cut lid, and a generic, and I mean generic chip. All on the car before the exhaust mod.

I know the guy who built it. He is a specialist in these bikes, and really knows how to get 'em fast. I hope to have mine fast enough to beat a 'Busa, but I have a way to go. :D Those bikes are awesome performers right out of the box! [Modified by KLLRVET, 9:15 PM 11/24/2001] |
Re: Ever dyno an Lt1 with SLP shorties? (SLOWBUSA)
I ran high 13.3s with mine 100% stock w/2.59.
I also had the shorties but never dynoed but felt they added nothing over the very good stock manifolds. Fir that reason we never put shorties on John Panuzzo car and he has run only .02 off my best for that combo. .02 is not worth $500. |
Re: Ever dyno an Lt1 with SLP shorties? (KLLRVET)
If this is true that is promising. Can you post the dyno graph ?
I was debating going to this same setup, shorties w/ gutted cats, due to emissions. Swaping out just the cats is much easier IMO than if I went to longtubes and had to swap manifolds and cats every 2 years. Did you remove the cats and use race pipes or just gut them ? How many miles were on the cats before you did this ? I just re-read your post again, you said "hp" and "tq", is that RWHP & TQ. or at the flywheel ? [Modified by nickd, 4:41 PM 11/25/2001] |
