Removing Factory Mufflers????
Can anyone tell me if the factory mufflers can be removed without cutting the pipes on jack stands??? Or take the car to a shop??
Thanks for the help, Paul |
Just jack it up, put on stands and it unbolts. Get it as high as you can as it takes some shaking (well mine did) to remove them.

Save yourself a headache and drop one side of the rear sway bar.

I swung the swaybar down from the top and removed the heat shield from the right gas tank. They came out pretty easily then.

Thanks for the help, if anyone else has any other tips, please post them. My new corsa sports are coming fed ex today. :willy: :willy: :willy:

You've got to disconnect the "H" pipe at the front to be able to pull the muffler pipes out of the rear of the "H" pipe.
|
Ok, thanks. So disconnect the clamps at the front of the "H" pipe and the rear?? I remember my C5, the over the axle pipes where a bear to clear the axle. Is the C6 better??
Thanks again, Paul |
Right and there is an H pipe hanger toward the rear where the H pipe forms a Y that has to disconnected to let the H pipe drop.
|
If you drop the "H" Pipe and the rear Sway Bar, they will come out very easy.
 Judd |
Drop the h pipe, get the back end as high as you possibly can and remove the left muffler first. the right side is a struggle compared to the left, but if the car is high enough it's not horribly difficult. U do have to wiggle the muffler pipes alot to get em free from the h pipe though, or if you have a friend, have him hold one end while u tug like mad on the other. I had to do the muffler change alone once, it was do-able, but took significantly less time second time around when working with a fellow forum member on his car.

Corsa's
My Corsa's came with instructions....get it as high as you can...the only pain is alingment...take your time....use jack stands...be SAFE!

1/2 hour job on lift!:D
|
Upon Further Review
1/2 hour to remove and install the mufflers 2 hour job to get them aligned properly:ack: |
i completely unbolted the h pipe and used a flathead screwdriver that i wedged between the rubber muffler holder and the hangers to get them out. That was the hardest part. Taking the mufflers out was easy, when one got stuck i just kicked at the h pipe and it came right off. Should take between 30 minutes and an hr depending on how long it takes you to get the hangers out of the rubber holders
