Could Gene Culley check

Is there really that much difference between the Coupe and the Z06 in the hatch area?

Maybe Gene Culley could check this one out.:yesnod: Possibly all we need is the hatch pull-down unit and a power source. In fact, maybe the wiring harness already includes the power source.

How about it Gene?

Just sent Gene a PM. I'll report back here on his response if he doesn't do so.

Have you guys tried leaving a door or window cracked and just dropping the hatch from 10 or 12 inches up? Works great every time, unlike the pulldown on the '05 I had, which was unpredictable.
One of the C6 Z06's biggest claims to fame is that at 3132 pounds, it's the lightest Corvette in 40 years or so. The removal of the pulldown was just one of many small things it took to get there. Each of the carbon fiber parts saves only a few pounds, as does the removal of the pulldown. But it's all part of the package. I enjoy it just as it is.

is.

The C6 Z is not the lightest. The C5 Z was almost 100# lighter, as was my 68 which will be 40 later this year.

Yes, door open, window down works, but is a PIA! I think the xtra 15-20lbs won't be noticed when I put my 210# carcass in the driver seat.

I have to confess that I'm a nut about weight saving. I didn't remember the C5Z being that light, so I looked up the GM specs. Couldn't find 2004 but they show 2003 and 2002 at 3118 lbs while they show the 2006 at 3130. 12 lbs difference, so we're both a little off .
I owned a 68 for many years and undertook a big weight saving program, including a ZL-1 alloy 427. It started at just under 3300 lbs, but it was a 427, so I'm sure a 327 would have been a good 100 lbs lighter. Those early C3's were great performance cars before they started packing on pounds and inches.

Gene Culley's Response

He regrets that he doesn't have any idea whether it will work or not.

I suspect that no one has asked this before and his information isn't of any help to him.

If someone here on the CF is willing to look into this further, then perhaps we'll have an answer.

Someone who's torn their car down for mods must have an idea if it would be doable.

Chime in guys!

Thought the same thing first time I tried to close my hatch, in fact
I called the dealer to find out why it would not close! He showed
me the slam and push method.

I also just drop the window a bit and it closes very easily.

TOMMYTRB 01-29-2008 09:26 PM

I almost fainted when MY dealer showed me how to close my hatch. He said hear let show you how to close your hatch SLAM. could have KILLED well u know. I would be very interested in and auto closing hatch like my Acdia GMC. While we are at it I would like to install the 6 CD changer in my car. Are they pr-wired?

:iagree:

My dealer did the same thing. Having owned a C5 I applied the same principle of opening a door slightly before dropping the hatch about 10". Works very well each time. Yes I could put a heavy push on the deck lid but why?

Back to the real question, is the wiring harness for the pull down latch in the Z06?

The cars come down the same line in BG so I would bet the C6 rear latching assembly with appropriate trim could replace the Z06 latch and trim if the wiring harness is present.

I am not saying that it wouldn't add weight or that it would be cheap.

Has anyone looked at the harness on the Z and the base car and compared them?

Add me to the list as well as auto-up windows and power passenger seat. I'd rather go on a diet than worry about this small amount of weight.
