How to disable the alarm
Hi all
Need a little help here with my 81s alarm system, the thing is it does not work I was told this when I got the car they had pulled the courtesy light fuse and he said all was well after they did that, but I like courtesy lights so after hr upon hr of trying to get this to work can someone tell me how to disable the alarm and have courtesy lights and everything else working just not that dam alarm. Thanks Hope everyone got around ok in the snow! |
Here are the schematics for the alarm.
What does the alarm do on your car? http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m...l/81Alarm1.jpg http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m...l/81Alarm2.jpg If the alarm module is bad I think all you have to do is unplug it. Here is the alarm operation page http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m...mOperation.jpg |
Wow
Thanks for all that info:thumbs: , from the looks of it I can just pull the Control module without causing any other problems in the car? Yes/no?:bigears One thing it does is locks out the starter.. sometimes??:bs Horns go off when I put the key in the door:ack: ect ect :toetap: I don’t need that alarm as I will be installing an after market, any thoughts…. |
where is the Control module located?
|
On my 78 I pulled the alarm relay. It is located under the center console on the driverside. It has yellow, orange and blue wires going to it.
Not sure if your year would be the same. |
Yeah, the alarm... ;)
I had some adventures with my alarm too.. Finally just unplugged the thing. On an 81, it's in the passenger side rear compartment. There's the wiper delay module & the alarm back there. Wipers are the smaller component. Just pull out the big plug & you're off to the races.
Stupid starter kill... Made me leave the car in a Wendy's parking lot overnight once. I called up the PO to ask how to reset the alarm. Response: It has an alarm? Good luck!! |

looks like the 78 to 80 cars are different. They don't have anything to do with the starter and there is only one arming switch (drivers door). My schematic for the 80 Corvette is much different then the 81.

Yup, the big one in the compartment. The next page of the Shop manual shows it, but I don't have a scanner.
 In the older cars it was in the console, but in '81,it's back there. Dan |
