Armchair raceing GTO 6.0 Vs LT4
My best friend is going to go get a 2005 GTO A4, and we have been doing some arm chair raceing. I was wanting the forums opinon how the race would go in a closed track.
1996 Corvette Lt4 VS 2005 GTO Ls2 |
LT4 for the win. IMO it will be a driver's race.

Have you seen the new speed channel show Pass Time? I watched it for the first time last night. Not too bad.

Power to weight ratio is where this one's going......
GTO weighs about 800+ lbs more and has 400 CHP LT4 weighs 800-900 lbs less but has 330 CHP Drivers race - probably, but my money's on the LT4 :D :leaving: ....let's hear from the LT4 CF members |

yeah that is true if the LT4 is only puting out 330 but my lt4 puts 293 to the wheels. so maybe put it at 350 hp insted of 330

I have an LT4 top end on my '93 six speed....Pretty sure I'd take him...Shhhhhhhh we don't have to tell him it's a stroked 383...Looks stock when you pop the hood....:leaving:

Heres the numbers I came up with
04 .. GTO..0to60..5.3....Quater Mile..13.6 96.. Corvette LT4 0 to 60...4.9 Quater Mile..13.4 |
Let's not forget the horrid wheel hop the GTO has to contend with. I have whipped quite a few LS1 and LS2 GTOs with my mostly stock 92 6spd LT1. Either they (good drivers) bogg it to keep the rear end from comming apart or spin so badly (the ones that don't care) that either way I have 2-3 cars by the 60ft marker. They can never make the difference up.
BTW around Jacksonville and Kinston NC, stock or mostly stock LS1 GTO's are in the 14.30-13.9 range. LS2's are in the 14.0-13.50 depending on driver. Some modified ones with good tires are much faster. Since I moved to the DC area 3yrs ago I haven't seen any GTO's at the race track here. I have drive quite a few over the years. Bottom line - IMO very nice cars, a bit overweight, with a lot of power and crappy suspension. Will |
The 06 GTO that I raced against at the track back in 06 ran a 13.08 and I just barely beat him with a 13.13
I was suprised that I was able to hang with him all the way down the track and I had to hit the brakes hard not to breakout before he did. We were both dialed in at 13.1 We talked later that day and when he saw that he got beat by a 19 year old tpi car his jaw just dropped. He also said his best time was a 12.9~ |
If the GTO driver can get it to hook, it's going to be very close. If you think an LT4 puts out '350' but an LS2 only makes '400', you are fooling yourself.
I say it comes down to driver/tires. |

The GTO cant get out of the hole! LT4 wins hands down.
|
I've never raced a GTO, but have raced a C5. It was very close, but of course an '85 is no match.
|
Just do it!
IMO: Un-modded cars rated within a couple of tenths in the quarter come down to driver. Also, we don't know the mods involved... Of slight relevance: I raced a GTO 6.0 M6 in my Trailblazer SS from 80mph. He spanked the crap out of me... It was pretty funny. I'm thinking there were a couple of mods on that particular goat... |
