Corvette C7 Fostel Design

I love designing cars so I tried to imagine what the C7 should look like. I love collecting design suggestions from Corvette fans to pick up the most important styling clues you would like to see in the future C7 Vette design. So I designed several C7 corvettes, some of them look very modern and some go back to a more nostalgic styling. I’ll be pleased to design a special corvette for this forum taking into consideration your ideas and hints.

This is the same design with classic tail lights

The first thing i do when I start a design is a quick hand sketch of what I want the car to look like. This is quite fast to do (it took me 30 minutes for this example). It is not an accurate design, it only shows the general lines of the car. Wheels are often over sized and as the design goes further (towards industrial process …Alias 3D modelling … etc … ) proportions get more realistic and closer to serial models.

Here is the very first quick sketch of the C7 that I made…I will show you the final result later on.

Because of the future fuel economy and emissions laws, GM might focus financial efforts on engine/transmission solutions rather than fundamentally modifying the actual C6 structure. So I also tried restyling a C6 in several manners.

I love seeing artists concepts though! Nice work!

Thanks for your reply. Actually what I’d love to know is what kind of styling would you like to see on the future Vette. The funny thing about Corvette design is that we in Europe love muscular shape Corvettes with typical US styling since we already have Ferrari and Lamborghini. In the US I noticed many Corvette fans see things differently, they would really love a more exotic Corvette that gets close to European styling. I think that a good design is one that satisfies both.

VetteSpeed-427 03-08-2008 06:43 AM

Here are two other designs. The first one is a kind of C6 super Vette (full carbon fibre body) that I designed way before the ZR1 came out. The second one is another view of the C7.

I like the one with round tail lights.

jimmybobby 03-08-2008 07:08 PM

The side view of the silver one is awesome. I'm not sure what the 2 black lines are behind the front wheel, but I think it would look better without those - it takes away from the lines and the way the front quarter flows. Nice Job on that one!

This the fun part, wondering how the lokk will pan out.

This will take years.

C-7 here we come.

Here it is without the side vents. This is a C6 restyling without modifying the actual wheel base. The second one is a total body and engine modification of the C6 Z06 …with an 8:1 compression ratio, Twin VG Turbos with water injection while over boost …max power 1000 Hp.

P.S. I modified several racing and high performance engines in the past but I stopped doing it now because there is no realistic future for such cars. At the moment I work on fuel economy technical solutions.

VetteSpeed-427 03-10-2008 12:00 PM

This one is not a C7 design but an old design that I did few years ago. I wanted to give Corvettes a strong visual identity front face (because C3/4/5 had pop up lights they lost much of their front face identity) and a cosy (classy) look.

my_blue_c5 03-10-2008 06:10 PM

That front end does not look very good.

But I like the one above the Snake Hunter, although it looks a lot like the current C6. (The rear portion.)

VetteSpeed-427 03-12-2008 01:35 PM

I design all types of cars, not only Vettes but my dream is to work for GM (not necessarily in the design field) because I love GM (in general) and Corvettes. I sent my CV several times to GM human resources but I’m sure that it is not getting to the right person (so if any one here works for GM and can help me ???). I also have other GM designs such as Pontiac but this is a Corvette forum so I will not post them here.

This is typical US styling and this is exaclty how i would have designed the C7 Vette if had the chance to do it for GM. Very Agressive design ....

These are some great designs..:smash: GM is stupid not to hire you..
but yes unfortunate over the last 35 years GM has done some
very..very stupid things....:leaving:

Here in the US so many of our cars have this muscular blocky like
look. The Chrysler 300..Dodge Charger..and Ford Mustang. But I
think the corvette can take this blocky look (as you show above)
as the overall shape and look of the car is so long and lean looking.

Still..yes....most US corvette people we like abit of the
european design look added to the corvette. It upgrades the car
since the corvette needs to be different from the typical US muscle car.

The trouble is that I don’t even know if GM saw my designs since you cannot ad pictures on the GM career website. So I sent my CV with some designs to the human resources but got absolutely no response and wonder if they did not just delete my message ?? I am really sad about that because I was a project manager for the Renault Logan and know a lot about low cost cars (starting from sheet metal to finished car ..I followed the complete industrial process) and can contribute to GM in many ways ..not only design.

Any ways ..here is a modification of the design I did earlier for a high performance Z06 version with European styling. My friends from the French Corvette forum hate this design because they find it too Euro … and prefer a typical US design. I told them that GM will build a C7 that most Corvette fans would love to see and the largest market is the US market …. So let’s go for some Euro styling ..

What program do you use for design?

VetteSpeed-427 03-17-2008 06:17 AM

What program do you use for design?
I have several programmes … PSPro, 3DSMAX, Rhino3D …it all depends on what I design, often I use a mix of several programs for the final finish. Car designers work from hand sketching to Alias 3D modelling tools. Design and modelling are tow different things but now car constructors wand to designers to be able to do both.

I am a mechanical engineer and the trouble is that I never learned design in school and because I don’t have a transportation design degree I cannot get a job in the design field. In France recruiters are often stupid …instead of looking at your work and see what you can really do they only look at your CV and degrees. I really love designing and can design almost anything (I can show you some of my work if forum administrator/moderators can tell me where to do it on this forum since I don’t want to mix subjects in this C7 section). I design body kits on existing cars and automobile contemporary art work. In this section I showed you several C7 designs that I imagined but I can also design a 2050 Vette …

VetteSpeed-427 03-19-2008 09:02 AM

I also design logos, banners and art posters …here are few examples of Corvette art work.

P.S. I designed the green C3 Daytona ..the car does not exsit.

I like this last one. To be honest, i guess i have a different view than some on here. Id like to see GM stick with a more classic US styling. The General has some unique challenges with the corvette. They have to come out with something that is consantley being refined, but still manage to stand out from the high end imports they aim to beat. Lambo can radically change design anytime they want, but corvette fans would cry foul if they ever did away with the four taillights.

I think It would be great to see something with strong styling cues from the C3 era, big fenders and a long nose. But with a wide body.

BTW, you do great work!

The Orange C6 above is a tuning design and not a serial design. It’s not meant to be produced on standard Vettes. The ones I designed on the first page are more serial type design with US look. Designing a Vette’s rear is easy, the front is a little more difficult to do. I will try to surprise with a totally new C7 design but this time with US styling.

ajg1915 04-19-2008 09:41 AM

I would really like to see a C7 with the notchback (FRC) design as it looks much nicer.

BTW, you're really gifted and I like your drawings.

ZFORME 04-19-2008 10:25 AM

I wish you worked at GM. I would like an FRC (short back window) styled C7Z06. The rear tailights should be a custom look/geometry.
Clean body lines that swoop to the front. A slight bulge in the hood and rear fenders for that American muscle look.
Your style and eye for design is wonderful; do not give up at trying to get inside GM.

VetteSpeed-427 04-21-2008 11:07 AM

Thank you all for your encouragements. I am working now on a new C7 design with a new interactive idea to make you participate if you wish to. I will cut the profile in three parts (Front Mid Rear) all of them can be interchangeable and I shall design three of each. Which means that you can vote for different front/mid/rear sections and depending on your votes I will give you a render of the final car (if the moderators can help me start a vote section). The game should be fun I think as I will give you a choice between US design and euro style.

I know this is a Corvette forum but here are some examples of other cars I designed. Some of them are 4 to 5 years old.

Unfortunately I am too old (35 yrs) to become car designer, car manufacturers like young designers that just graduated ….. I don’t even have a design diploma and I work for Metso (rock process industry) ….. so the only way for me to see one of my designs on the street is to do everything myself

I am probably going to disappoint many of you but I am planning on redesigning and building a complete new corvette (it will be called VetteSpeed) on a tubular C5 chassis basis ….ultra light concept (max 1100 kg) and a new engine (not a GM but Audi engine) …direct high pressure fuel injection + VG Turbo. The exterior size will be close to the actual C6 but with lower roof panels (similar height to a C5) The aim is to have superior performance to the stock C5 and ….40 Mpg. Right now I am working on gathering enough funds for this project.

Wait and see …….

Nice work that is excellent design. From my personal taste I dont like it and I dont like the C 6 period. Corvette in my humble opion and with all do respect really screwed the Corvette design up. Off the top getting rid of the pop up lights was a tragedy. Shortining it to be like a Mercedes or even worst a Hyundai on steriods was another huge mistake. The C 6 has Zer0 sex appeal to it, unlike the C 5 with its nice curves and big ass. Inside I find the car to be totaly uncomfortable I know everyone will say no but whatever its uncomfortable. Design something not retro god thats played out but something true to Corvette dont fall in the trap of what all thses idiots just go along with and say yea I like it. Be unique I can see by work that you have an incredible talent and that C 7 design is truly amazing but you can do better.

I like this design, although, I would like to see more rounded edges, which could help with fuel economy and have less wind resistence. As one poster mentioned, I also prefer the rounded tail lights and I also like the treatment of the front headlights. I would like to see more sketches of the front. One of the things that was a concern on some of your sketches was what looked like a very small rear window. I would prefer to see a larger rear window. I would like to see what you might do with the interior of the car, since some people have expressed some disappointment with the current C6 interior. However, I think their comments were more directed towards the ZR1. Nice ideas!

This one looks nice and with a MCM like hood it would look even better  Nice work

I like this design myself but would like to see it in a notchback design.

I wish GM kept the notchback design of the fixed roof C5's.

So far most of the corvettes you have seen here are designed on a C6 basis in order to reduce production costs if they were to be produced. In a few weeks I will show you a radically new concept ….something as different as a C4 is to a C1 !! with absolutely nothing common to the actual C6.

I just want a C6R why cant we have that look? I like the hood and vented fenders. I'll buy two please.

Most of you see C6 corvettes in some of my designs and that’s true …because I started on a C6 base …here is something totally new …the only thing in common with older corvettes is a split window hint from the C2 (not visible on this view)
