!!! C6 RATTLES NOISE GUIDE !!! - All Members Feedback Required

Dear members, in my humble opinion I think what takes from the C6's beauty, performance, and price advantage is the interior rattle issue.

I would highly appreciate posting any solution, earlier post, link(s), comments, pictures which address all sorts of rattles issues in the roof, doors, dashboard, rear partitions, etc. At the end, the intention is to help everyone here including myself better enjoy his and/or her C6 Corvette.

Thanks for everyone in advance ......

Insulation

I'll start the guide by putting the link to an excellent insulation guide in the forum.

No one has rattle issue?!!!

FortMorganAl 04-05-2008 07:11 AM

Nope. I've put about 14K miles on it this past year. Had the roof squeak/pop but that is easily fixed by doing the silicon grease treatment that GM recommends in the owner's manual.

I've insulated my C5 ZO6 and am about to do the C6 Convertible. As your link says I took my time and learned a lot about how the car went together. I also feel as though I fit the pieces back together better than the assembly line.
The result is amazing. I can use my new bluetooth phone and actually hear the caller. Exhaust sound is diminished, but I can open the windows and hear it the same as before.
Go for it ... but allow plenty of time. It's a very satisfying DIY that most folks won't even know you've done.

My roof rattles a bit on the drivers side. Not on the passenger side. It is not roof delamination. It sounds more like the roof could be tightened down a bit more. I drive 99% with the roof off so it goes un noticed most of the time.

No rattles. 34,000 miles.

My roof also rattles a bit on the driver’s side. It stared on the both sides first. That is when I took it to the dealer and that is why it’s only the driers side now. It seems that this occurs when the weather gets warm. I hear that GM is coming out with replacement parts this month. I will find out soon when I take the vette back in for the rattle. Other than the roof rattle the car is quite inside.

I had a rattle in the rear compartment - turns out it was the tool kit I put there. There was another rattle in the glove box and that turned out to be my flashlight. Point is some rattles are self induced.

I have a few rattles when its cold out, but in summer they all seem to go away. It drives me MAD, but there is nothing I can do. If I try to remove all the interior pieces, Im just going to make it worse in the long run. Its even worse when the top is off. The only way to get around it is to never drive your new car to keep it new or buy a ferrari where you are getting the quality but at a huge price tag.

My C5 had several rattles. My neighbor owned an F355 - that car rattled like a can of marbles. But it looked and sounded cool.:D

I still get some minor stress noise from the roof panel when traversing uneven terrain at slow speed but it hasn't bothered me enough to seriously attempt to fix it. Otherwise, I feel my 2005 C6 is fairly tight. Considering the rutted dirt road I drive on daily (albeit at 5-10 mph) and the stiff suspension I'm somewhat amazed the entire car hasn't entirely rattled apart.

Yea, here is what the dealer is going to install to quiet your roof:

Except if you want to buy them from the dealer to install yourself, they are going to be GM branded and cost $15.99 each.

18,000 miles and no rattles.

I noticed that I had quite a bit of squeaking coming from my center console. Essentially it was caused by the plastics rubbing together. So I went to hobby lobby and picked up some sheets of felt with sticky backing. Total cost of like 3 bucks. I took the whole console apart and lined the entire back with the felt. If there was plastic touching plastic, felt went in between. Now my center console is very quiet :D
