"Objects in mirror" removal

Does anyone know how or where to get a mirror that doesn't have that annoying "objects in mirror are closer than they appear" warning on the passanger side. Or one thats removeable. My factory glass seems to have it etched in and it bugs the crap out of me. I am aware of the regs pretaining to convex lenses but I'd like one without it all the same. Anyone have any scoop? Thanks in advance. :lurk:

Just a bump see if anyone could help. Thanks!

The only resolution that comes to mind is the after market (Pep Boys etc) sell replacement mirror glass, listed by application (the same shape/dimension as your OEM mirror glass) that mount with double faced tape on top of your mirror, broken or not. Just buy a drivers side (has no warning lettering on it) and mount it on the passenger's mirror glass.

Someone was selling a sticker that goes over it that says " Objects in Mirror are Losing". Do a search and you may find the person or supplier. It's actually pretty funny.

You're right, but it would appear that 97C5owner is trying to do just the opposite than add lettering and is looking to eliminate the lettering altogether.

Couldn't a glass shop replace the mirror without the annoying etched caveat?

Try an auto glass shop - they may have one or maybe can make you one.

Good idea! But it looks like the driver side is a sliiiiightly different shape than the passenger side.

Wouldn't the driverside be the exact opposite of the passenger side in terms of edges and shape?

And it wouldn't be convex...

Ya, you might be right there (throwing a wrench in my suggestion).

Trying to put one of those "Objects in mirror are losing" decals on the mirror and it looks terrible with those etched letters beneath it. Totally half a$$ed. Hope that answers the question. Appreciate all the suggestions everyone. Great stuff. Anyone else? :bigears

I think the euro spec passenger mirror has no warning on it. maybe you can locate a euro spec one?

Aren't lawyers wonderful:rofl:

This one sits firmly in the "Mc Donalds Coffee is Hot" category. A really useful statement of the flaming obvious.

Sorry I cant help with an answer to your Q

I wonder if GM replacements or knock off replacements from auto parts stores have the lettering on there. Sometimes replacements don't have that type of stuff to save money. I'd maybe check with Gene at gmpartshouse.com to see if he knows if the replacements have it or don't, or you local dealer.

droq172 04-18-2008 02:31 AM

Now that he has brought it up we are all going to notice it and it is going to piss us all off. ARGH!!!! to you for pointing out the obvious. :willy:

I dont know about these exact mirrors, but on earlier GM cars, the plastic piece the mirror mounts to is also curved. A flat mirror wouldnt stay on unless you stack/stagger the tape.....:ack:

I recall reading an article a few years back regarding that warning. I think a car company was sued and collected, or settled out of court. It's kinda like a step ladder with the warning "Don't go above this step" or some stuff like that. Product liability is the killer of Common Sense.
