Horn relay - 1967
 

I could use a little help. Did a stupid thing and now I am confused :willy: . There are 5 terminals on my '67 horn relay. I can see numbers 1, 4, and 5. I will assume the ones I can't see are 3 and 4 :rolleyes: . Which wires go to each terminal? Anyone is allowed to make fun of me. Thanks.

There are (2) plug-in connections on the bottom of the '67 horn relay; one gets the green wire that feeds 12V to the horns, and the other gets the black wire that goes to the horn button. The screw-terminal buss gets a 10-ga. red wire under one screw, and a 20-ga. orange wire (fusible link) with a molded splice to a 16-ga. black/white wire under the other screw (doesn't matter which wire is under which screw - both screws are on a common "hot" buss). There's also a black ground wire from the harness that goes under the screw that attaches the horn relay to the radiator support. :thumbs:

Thanks. I just about had it, but this must be an aftermarket horn replay. There is an extra terminal and there is a black wire with a connection that should fit it. I will check to see if this is the ground that normally attaches between the relay and radiator. I guess I can assume the extra terminal is a ground.

In looking at replacement relays for my '67, it states with or without buzzer. What does the buzzer do?

Later horn relays (starting in '69) had an extra plug-in terminal on the bottom for a pink/black wire that triggered the key warning buzzer, which was inside the relay. If the key was in the ignition and you opened the door, the buzzer went off. Photo below of the connections on the later horn relay with the key buzzer. :thumbs:

My car sat for many years with the engine wire harness removed. Yesterday the new harness went in and all was fine until I got to the horn relay. Thank you for the detailed description and photo JohnZ, very much appreciated.
