Best mufflers/baffles for Hooker Sidepipes?
Okay, so my dad and I have Jet-Hot Sterling ceramic coated Hooker side pipes and headers in the mail, and we are in need of the mufflers or baffles. I've only heard bad things about the hooker slip in tube mufflers. I've then heard only good things about the turbo spiral baffles....the only down fall I've heard about the spiral baffles is that they are not all that extremely loud! I was hoping fo something maybe a little louder.
What's really the truly best baffles or mufflers for these side pipes? BTW: I'm brand new to the forum, but have had a lot of fun working on my dad's '71 vette, and racing around in my my dad's '64 race car, so I kind of know my stuff......:D Thanks for the help guys. |

Define "best" - cheapest? least back flow? pleasing sound?
The spiral turbo baffles are pretty darn loud when you accelerate rapidly. I've got mine drilled with only a 3/8 hole in the cap, but I'll bet they're not legal in any State! :) The only thing louder is open pipes... |
I would probably say that best for us would be mix between awesome sound, and best flow.....
|
My sweet thunders are plenty loud.

On my opinion, there is no 'best' muffler for hooker side pipes if you're over 450/500hp (but open mufflers), anyhow the best compromise flow/sound is this shorty guy pictured below:

My STS Baffles routinely set off car alarms. That's probably loud enough for most applications.

Okay, so what I'm getting at so far is maybe getting the sts sprial baffles, and then if they're not loud enough for my dad (I love them loud!) then maybe we'd drill a small hole in the the cap right?
Thanks for the help guys, kinda don't know where I'm going with this one. |

Man, too many decisions! spiral baffles with drilled holes in them versus the max-flows....
Anyone have sound clips of the max-flows, I have a clip of the spiral baffles and they sound pretty sweet, and was hoping for a comparison. btw, are these the max flows? http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku |

I am in the process of installing STS baffles, but I shot this short video today of how it sounds with Hookers (not sure what baffles are in it at the moment) for a before and after comparison. For the next video I will get closer and behind the sidepipes for better sound quality, so turn your volume up!!
Once I pull the side pipes, I'll try to find out what baffles are in it, but here's how it is now: I plan to shoot more video at idle/rev, and a quick run down the road, then the same with the STS installed for comparison in the next few days...plus a bonus footage. :reddevil Also, I uncapped the STS completely, so i'm curious myself how it will sound. Best I can give you at the time. ______________ www.youtube.com/69Stingray427 |

Just a 3/8 inch hole makes that much difference?
