Fixed GM's flaw ! Rear window drain install. Pics.
Well I did it. Some say they use a towel, a needle, a leaf blower to get the water out.
The truth is its a factory flaw and needs to be fixed or it will rot your weather stripping. That included the metal and the rubber. Well here is some pics of my install ! http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...t/DSC04846.jpg http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...t/DSC04845.jpg http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...t/DSC04827.jpg http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...t/DSC04832.jpg http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...t/DSC04833.jpg http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...t/DSC04843.jpg http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...t/DSC04839.jpg http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...t/DSC04844.jpg Once the weather strip is on, the gromet will not show. I was going to paint it but didnt want it to chip and etc. Dan :flag: |

Hatch drain
Did mine too, although its hard to drill holes in my car, it was one of the needed mods.
|
Looks good. What if you just drilled a small pin hole, without the tubes etc.?
|
did you drill straight down. it looks good. i read somewhere you have to angle the hole a little outward
|
I did mine the other week. Now I gotta do the weatherstripping, have the new piece in the garage.
The drain kit is awsome. Really makes a difference. No more water running down the sides. installation is quite simple. Just follow the directions. |
Looks great.
Can't wait to see that thing all painted up and on the road.. |
I would be carefull on how i would drill the hole because i've heard that with time stress cracks start to form.

I agree that the problem can be a bit annoying, but I'm kinda doubting its responsible for "rotting" your weather stripping. |
I would like to do this mod to my car and I've looked over the photos and I wanted to ask, what area is shown in photos #5 and #7. Seems to me that one hole is drilled from the top and the other hole should be drilled from below in the wheel well with a drill stop or tape wrapped around the drill bit so as not to go too deep into the car body with the drill bit. Then run a piece of wire up from the bottom hole to guide the tube through both holes and then you should be good to go.
