will halltech intake, LT headers, 160 stat and street tune make my 2002 Z less dependable? warranty expired month before i purchased car. either i get MODS Or a WARRANTY. car will see no more than 2,500 miles a year. no tracking or 1/4 abuse only street fun ;)
what to do

I think I vote for warranty, these cars are so stupid fast as it is, why not get some insurance. Eventually some thing expensive might go like the ebcm, rear, or 3rd gear in the tranny. I have some basic mods to my car and I am maybe using 50% of the cars potential, on a road course. On the street well you know.

get both. I've had my extended warranty company cover repairs after I added my headers and had a tune and an intake.

I'd personally go with the mods. If you aren't driving your car that hard or putting many miles on it, I wouldn't be afraid of it tearing up as these cars are very dependable. Gut instinct says to do both though...
Headers, tune and thermostat etc won't make it less dependable, just more fun.

If you can't get a GMPP warranty, don't bother, and seeing how your car is already out of warranty, I'm pretty sure you can't (but I've been wrong before!).

Those mods you've listed are basic stuff that in no way would affect dependability unless someone f@*ks up the tune, which with those mods many don't bother with anyway.

Hi eddie -

Absolutely not.

I have LG pros (cat delete), a Halltech TRAP, 160 stat, and a dyno tune on my 2002 Z06.

I have 52k miles on it, and it is every bit as docile as it was prior to the upgrades.

I waited to install the headers until after the warranty expired, but in retrospect I would have put them on much earlier.

Do it!!!

Hi Eddie -

Put the money in the bank and enjoy the car.

In the unlikely event you have issues, do what you can yourself using the wealth of info available here and on other Corvette web sites, and take advantage of the savings through forum vendors when you cannot do it yourself.

The cars are very reliable and mechanically strong in stock or simple bolt on configuration.

best regards -

:iagree: you have the forum help if you do get in some kind of trouble. I don't have a GMMP and my extended warranty company just wont cover labor that is associated with mods that ive done. Like the dealer charged a little bit more because i had header on my car for a clutch change and the warranty company wouldnt cover the additional time that was required for headers. no biggie. Besides, adding headers is engine modification, its an exhaust modification:D

$2,700!! Thanks but no thanks. I have the feeling that no matter what, your warranty would mysteriously be voided even without mods. I have never had very good luck with extended warranties (and I am a dealer by the way).
These cars are strong and reliable. Bullet proof? No, but darn hard to tear up with street tires.
Hope you enjoy the car. We are all here if you do tear something up.

you can do a lotta fixin for $2700.00. spend it on gas.

chimazo 05-12-2008 06:14 PM

$2700 is ridiculous!

Start modding and have fun!!

I would buy a nice set of rims with those 2700 usd if you dont race it.
