1965 Courtesy and Parking Brake Switch

What is the correct way to attach the wire from the harness to the switch itself? Does it just crimp on there??

Wires for each of those switches have a bullet-shaped terminal. The terminal pushes into the female connector on the switch.

On my 65 I pushed until I felt a little "snap"

The "bullet" connector just plugs into the "receiver" (the round socket on the moving end of the switch) on the switch. At least that's how my courtesy light and P-brake warning switches connected.

The wire doesn't want to just plug in there... no matter how much pressure I use to try to plug it in, it falls right out.

Then either the remains of the old terminal is still in there, or the female connector needs a little squeeze from a pair of pliers. Oh sure I could have instead talked about the female opening needing a hard squeeze from a good dike...

New switch and new harness.. I will try getting a dike to squeeze it.

But of course, and don't call me Shirley :)

Be gentle with that squeeze. That female part crushes easily.

I put in new switches and harness last fall and had the same problem. Like DZ says be gentle with the crimp and the male will snap in . Ask me how I know!!:smash:

Don't mean to hijack this thread but I'm at the same point as mikeyandem1 in the total replacement of wiring in my '65. My car has a dual master cylinder w/ proportioning valve. A previous owner spliced the wire running from the proportioning valve pressure switch into the tan wire for the emergency brake warning light. I assume he did this to create a warning light in the case of a change in brake fluid pressure at the valve. He left the bullet shaped connector on the end of the wire but it wasn't connected to the emergency brake. Here's my question: on my new harness, would you recommend doing the same thing? If so, are there any problems w/ connecting both the proportioning valve pressure switch and e-brake switch on the same tan wire from the new harness?

No problem - that's the way the factory circuit worked on the 67's - either the parking brake or the differential pressure switch would ground the circuit for the "Brake" warning light in the cluster.

BTW, that's not a proportioning valve - it's just a distribution block for the differential pressure switch - it has no valving function at all.
