How to make the brake line bubble flare?
 
how do I remake the bubble flare at the proprotioning valve so I can cut off and replace a seriously corodded fitting at the brake prop valve which is leaking badly?

Do you have a double flair tool? If you do it a two step process, first flair it like a normal flair then put the double flair insert in and double it back on to its self. Its not hard, try it on a scrap pipe first for practice.

:iagree: I also have put the clamp into a vise to hold it shut . This has given me a better double flair -keeps the line from moving . The 2nd flair takes a little more pressure . but is is not hard at all:thumbs:

With a double flaring tool.

If there is enough slack on your line, you might get away with just cutting right below the existing flare, sliding the old fitting off, new fitting on, then re flaring the end and ending up with enough line to re attach. If not, you need to splice in an extension to reach.

Either way no need to buy a tool you'll probably just use once. Go to Autozone and rent their double flaring tool. Part# for SAE version is 27015. Part number for Metric version is 27012. The instructions are right on the box. The diameter of your line will determine which kit you need.

If you need a tube bender, they have two available for rent also.

You leave a $25 deposit and get it back when you return the tool. So basically it's free as long as you don't break it or loose parts.

I used their flaring tool recently to make perfect flared ends on my trans line. I had a leak and cut the bad section out and spliced in a new section.

Napa carries straight sections of brake line with fitting already attached for dirt cheap (less than $5.00). They also carry the fittings by themselves depending on which way you're doing it. You should not be spending more than $10 for this repair.

I used a small pipe cutter to cut the line like this one:

What You need is an ISO flaring tool. I was lucky enough to have a friend who had one and let Me borrow it. Not sure where You can rent one. Another idea is to go to Napa and buy a repair line with the ISO or bubble flare and replace the whole line. This is what I would recomend since the line could be weak in other places. Good luck.
