That's it, Do you know what ever happened to that car?
What dragstrip was your photo taken at?
It would be pretty cool if that was under the tarp in the junkyard.
I have a picture also but I don't have a scanner so I can't post it.
Thanks for posting yours, that was one quick Corvette.

I didn't take the picture. I think it was sent to me by a forum member. I have no idea what happened to the car, but it would definitely be cool if that was it though.

If you like old Corvette race cars check these out.

I have a complete 57 that I was going to street rod, but I just never found a front suspension kit that i was going to be happy with. This car is complete but disassembled with all chrome, stainless, dash, interior, soft top, etc. Price is low $30's but could be less depending on what your end state objectives are for the car. Clear, clean title, tag, frame VIN, etc. PM me for details. Serious inquiries only with cash please.

The 427 engine has value in and of itself. Perhaps 8 to 10,000 I suppose to the guy building an original 472 67 vette that is missing a motor.

:iagree: also

Feed back welcome Thanks George

Is it really a BB and not a 427 SB with fuel injection? The 427 SBs have been around for a while, and the aluminum covers and fuel injection would make more sense that way.

Concept 57

I believe that I saw as an assembled Vette from 'Corvette Central' a new 1957 replica Vette body that could be built any way you want, BB or SB or even with a 426 Hemi. ..:D

:iagree: very true, I was faced with about 11K to get a 427 for my 66 and have all the #s be correct. The 427 (if it is a vette unit) brings a intangable value!!! my .02

L72 427

My L72 has this stamped on the pad, "TO 610 IP" no vin number.

just my opinion but I can't see what difference it makes what kind of BB motor is in the car, whether it be a 427, a 396, 454, or wharever, originally from a Corvette, or any passenger car or truck.
Since BB's weren't available in '57's I'd simply try to find a reasonable price for a non-original motor '57 that needs a lot of work because that's all it is.
The only way there may be a somewhat higher value for the car other than a non-original motor 57 that needs work would be if you could determine for sure that the car was originally a fuelie car or an Airbox car

Somewhat disagree a 57 with a big/block, :steering: what a blast to drive...
my motto "driveum dont waxum" & life is to short.
Just my 2 cents

My 56 IS basically street rodded and I've retained the stock frame/suspension/interior. This has retained the stock appearance, but with a very healthy SB400 and 4sp.

Hello,
Thanks for all the comments. I really got more than I expected. I spoke to ther owner todya and he said he has the FI unit, 2 sets of Hi perf heads and the correct block. I will see him on Monday next week and will take pictures of the car and find out what casting number the 427 is. Then I hope to get a better idea on what the value is.

Barry,
The reason I asked about the 427 BB is that i feel the BB is worth a lot of $$$ if its a 66 or 67 vette motor. thus the value of the car would differ than, 1) had a correct motor 2) did not have a motor 3) had the correct motor and the 427 BB correct for the vette. :yesnod:

Comment welcome.
Thanks George

You mean this car?
http://img219.imagevenue.com/loc14/t...s_122_14lo.jpg

Les Lucier is the former owner/driver of the 'California Corvette'. Jimmy Reid built and maintained the big block drivetrain of the car that he campaigned in A/MP throughout the 60's and '70's. They are both old friends of mine. Les 'borrowed' the front license plate guards from my black '57 vette for the Nationals- for which he is shown holding the class winner's trophy. We see each other every week during the summer at the cruise-ins in the area. Jimmy Reid Jr. is absolutely in love with the old girl and wants to build a replica.

That is another shot of the 'California Corvette' before she was lettered.
I have many beautiful 8x10 shots of her in action.

P.S.
Les told me that he sold the car to the owner's son of the Atlanta Speedway. We don't know what happened to it after that. We'd love to find out.
Not trying to hijack the thread at all, but the old girl really has a special place in a lot of our hearts. It nearly brought a tear to the eye when I saw it here.

MICK3 07-01-2008 04:29 PM

Thanks for posting that information, that car was awsome!
Feel free to post more action shots I for one would appreciate it.
Do they know where the original car is?
Thanks

Here's one that I had from 1969.

If I am ever fortunate enough to own a 56, I would want it to look just like this.
Dig the hubcap look.
