For those boasting about 25-30 mpg I don't understand how?
 

Ok I have seen post after post after post. I don't know if my car is any different but I would like to ask how any of you are getting average mpg readings of 25-30 mpg? Iam sorry but I drove mine back and forth to work (about 20 miles one way) and I constantly watched the instant and average mpg. By the end of the week with my only getting on it once or twice and basically feathering the crap out of it driving in 6th gear getting an instant over 30 mpg most of the time, my average only came out to 22 mpg.

This seems to be very consistent as the same thing happened with my C4. It seemed that you had to drive on the highway a good 75 miles in order for you to increase your mpg even 1 or 2 points.

So Iam really curious as to how these numbers are being reported. Or are people just going by their instant numbers and estimating what they are getting? Shoot when I get on it my instant goes from 24-28 way down to 17-19...that throws your average way down.:thumbs:

Most of those #'s are gonna be hwy mileage. Our '04 A4 gets 20-21 as a daily driver, but on a "road trip", 25-26 is common. My '99 6spd would regularly get 27-28 hwy. Just remember, your getting 22mpg driving a 350hp V8 sports car to work!!!:D

I just been reading so many posts about people saying there vettes are so great on the fuel and mpg. Iam like what????????? ummmmm I don't know if they are driving something different then me, but I aint getting no 30 mpg in my corvette lol. Like I said, Iam right there with ya in the 20-25 mpg average. Sure on the highway our cars will get up to the 27-28 range...but definitely won't be averaging 27 mpg when you include city driving with it.

My 01 Coupe with Auto and the 3.15 rear end gets 25 to 27 on the highway and 17 in town. That's at 70 to 75 in cruise and NO full throttle stuff. Around town it's just short commutes here and there, small town, only 5 miles from one side to the other and only 2 miles to work each day. Mine's also a daily driver. Oh yeah, that's with the A/C turned ON too. No major mods on mine, just a K&N intake and Flowmaster mufflers.

I've always made it a point to state that my 28mpg was on the highway. :yesnod:

I average about 19.5 around town

650 hp and I still average 28 mpg hwy/20 city. :D

I get 24 mpg all city driving, the secret is to slow down and try to time lights and try to stay in 6th gear as much as possible which is only around 1000 rpm idling around. This of course is driving conservative to say the least but I keep up with traffic I just try to avoid all the stop and go if possible. Also tire pressure is around 35 psi.

WHen my Z was basically stock it got 29-32mpg on the highway and 20-23 in town. With the cam and supporting mods it now gets about 26 on the highway and 19-20 in town when just driving nicely. Don't hammer it and they should get great gas mileage. :cheers:

woah! How in the world do you do city driving in 6th gear! I can barely do 4th around here in Tennessee, just way wayyyyyyyyyy too much traffic to even attempt 5th or 6th gears. With so many different situations, my car would either stall or bog so bad I would definitely get into an accident for not being able to move quickly enough. 6th gear doing 40 in mine is less then 1000rpms.

2000 Stock coupe with 41,000 miles. 6 speed manual. Tire pressure at 35 psi

Here are my numbers:

68 to 70 mph highway, top on and no a/c 32.6 mpg average

Remove the top, subtract 2 to 3 mpg

top on and a/c on, subtract .5 to 1.5 mpg

bumping the speed to 75 to 80 mph and subtract 2 to 3 mpg

City driving seems to depend on a number of things. I can get anything from 21 to 26mpg. I average about 22 normally.

My number are from a fuel use log I keep in the glove box. The log numbers come very close to the average in the DIC.

That's what happens when you drive uphill both ways all the time!!:lol: The type of tires and the pressure you run in them will have an effect as well!I still have the GoodYear R F's around 32 cold and get good mileage with conservative driving(and this is doing the math at fill up) Non run flats get less MPG according to other forum members.:thumbs: :thumbs: :cheers:

Most of the higher gas mileage is with the 2.73 gears/automatic and on the interstate. My 2000 with the 2.73 gear used to get 29-30 on the road going 75 mph. My 2001 with the 3.15 gear is around 25-26 at the same speed.

I don't hold any stock in what the DIC says about mileage, and always go off of miles traveled per gallons used.

Daily driving I get 18-20 depending on how much playing I do, highway average is right around 27 but I've seen as good as 30+ when on large stretches of lower speed limit road.

This is with my intake/full exhaust/tune '02 Z06...

Iam more questioning the DIC averages and if people are actually seeing DIC average numbers above 25. Unless your almost always on the highway and for long periods of time, I don't see how. This is of course, unless Iam missing some sort of fast reset procedure that allows the DIC to immediately within 20 miles of highway driving to calculate a more accurate mpg. So far I have yet to see it in either one of my corvettes. It seems to take the car several hundred miles of highway driving to really accurately give you an average and have the number be close to 25.

But anyways I think I have found my answer out seeing so many people now chiming in with the 20-25 average figures. I don't feel so out of the loop now.

My long term average is 20. Baby driving yields high 20's on highway easy. Driving like a nutcase yields 7.

Then try driving on the highway at 80-85

you will get better mpg

I show better mpg at 80 than at 70

I get 6 mpg on the track! :D :flag:

You can run 5th gear in town. I drive in 30 and 40 mph speed limit areas all the time and use 5th at any speed above 33 mph. I use 6th at speeds of 45 mph.

I just achieved 26 mpg highway on a 290 mile trip. One thing I did was hit the reset button before I left so the average mileage was only for the trip and did not include any city driving or idling I had been doing before that.
