Adding Steering Wheel Controls
HAS ANYONE TRIED TO INSTALL RADIO CONTROLS ON A 1LT OR A C6 THAT DID NOT COME WITH THEM? I HAVE AN 08 AND WOULD LIKE TO TRY THE INSTALL IF IT IS POSSIBLE.

Called dealer close to me 2 days ago about the necessary parts, and he stated that it was an entire steering wheel assembly. I too want the radio controls and have no gripe turning a few screws to do so, but not willing to buy an entire steering wheel just to do it.
Have you called the dealer to see if this is a plug and play piece or is it the steering wheel assembly? |
I am also very interested in this mod. Has anyone performed this?

i have seen the schematic and it looks like the switch fit in any 07 or 08 steering wheel but i am not sure. i will get this to work on my car i just dont know how long or how much it will cost to do it. i would also like the telescoping wheel feature that will be my next project, but if your right about the buying the whole assembly i might knock out two birds with a single (could be expensive) - stone!:D

How much was the entire steering wheel?

You don't need the whole steering wheel.
I found a link to an HHR site where a guy had done the deed and supplied these part #'s. The HHR wheel looks the same as ours. I haven't confirmed that these exact #'s will work, but my research has shown that the parts for our car are available seperately and these #'s below are listed as 07-08 part #'s The question is, is the harness from the column to the radio in the car already, it was for the HHR, so ........ Switch $34.14 15842365 Harness $14.81 15234343 Module/Cover $18.85 15234337 |
I am interested in the wheel controlls but i have an 06 c6 3lt

Cool. I bet you will be able to do it for bluetooth as well.

Nope! GM has already said it would be way to cost prohibitive to do bluetooth on the older cars.

TTT - Anyone on the SWC's. I have a 2006 and need to know if the connectors will work with the NAV unit. I don't like switching from NAV to change radio stations.

I am also interested in the original question. I have no interest in the bluetooth part that someone else asked about. |

I can feel it, any day now someone knowledgeable is going to answer this question. :toetap:
The radio will not make use of the new switch inputs until it’s reconfigured. The base U66 option with a Delco amplifier will not work. The premium U65 using a Bose amp will work. Using a Tech2 I had to change the option configuration in the radio from the U66 to the U65 and then the switches worked. I don’t know what issues there could be from telling the radio it’s using a Bose amp when it’s actually a Delco? But everything seems to work ok. I have a feeling some of the difference is with the EQ settings. I know Bose likes to use their own presets programmed into their amps. Now I just need to decide if I want to spend the $$$ on a new steering wheel… :ack: |
