Bi-Mode Z06 Exhaust install on '06 Z51

hey everyone.

im installing a Z06 Bi-Mode exhaust on my '06 Z51 soon...

i've done alot of research, and seen all the 'Kits' out there to operate the Exhaust flaps.,,, but im looking to do something a little more custom..

this is what i want. to have the flap open when i goto WOT only, .

i plan on running a hight temp silicone line from the engine to the back, then. i just need to put a universal wot switch under the pedal, and have that running to somthing that can switch/release vacuum from the exhaust flaps.. like a vacuum switch or something...

what i am looking for is if someone can maybe scetch up some sort of diagram of how it supposed to be plumbed/wired..

im good at reading schematics for electronics, but this vacuum switch thing has really got me lost, and i dont want a nasty vacuum leak...:smash:

p.s. oh yeah,, if you could also give me some part numbers for the vacuum switch too...

thanks

I think it would work if you used pipedreams "NPP in a Box". Coupled with a window switch such as those used in nitrous, combined with a WOT switch, you should be able to get it to work. You'd just have to get the switch to be active all the time and deactivate at WOT. The digital window switch from Nitrous Outlet should work fine for this. I think...lol.

Something like this:http://www.nitrousoutlet.com/catalog...product_id=964

The flaps open when vacuum is lost, right? Then just run them off the manifold vacuum... WOT = no vacuum/open flaps. Just what you want.

i thought of that but what i am worried about is when im in 6th on the hwy, and i give it some gas and the engine is under a load, i will most likely loose all vacuum, and the flaps would end up opening at like 2k and sound like crap... but of course close when back to cruise....

but in the end,, might be the only option as of right now....

Use the Pipedreams.Nakid parts NPP in a box and you don't have to worry about engine vacuum. If you are going to do an OEM type install, you will have a vacuum accumulator that will provide the vacuum while at WOT.

does anyone think that i can control this PN# 15211319 Figure #18 via the WOT switch?

Glad you found the list of parts on my site.

The vacuum solenoid you are referencing when powered on closes the butterflies by applying vacuum to the butterflies. When you remove power, the butterflies open.

If the WOT switch provides 12 volts when not activated, and then removes 12 volts when you go WOT you are good. I believe most WOT switches are opposite of that though, so you may have to use a relay in the middle.

Wire the relay common terminal to 12 volts, then the Normally closed terminal to the positve terminal of the vacuum solenoid. The negative side of the vacuum solenoid goes to ground. The positive side of the relay coil is wired to the output of the WOT switch, the negative side of the relay coil to ground.

That way when the WOT switch applies 12 volts to the relay it opens thus removing power from the vacuum solenoid and opening the butterflies.

There are many different configurations of WOT switch so it needs to be tailored to the type of switch you are using.

If you need more detailed instructions let me know. I am happy to help you get up and running.

THANKS!!! yes,, i just found this post after more intense searching. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1726443

he installed everything basically from oem, but i will use high temp silicone hose 6mm instead, and instead of the f55 switch i will use the wot switch under the pedal...

much appreciated.. and thanks for all the help guys!!!!

Here is the vacuum solenoid

but im not sure if i need this or not:

Hi I have been making Z06 and NPP control systems since the Z06 came out in 2006. I can make you a very simple system (and low cost) to do exactly what you want. PM me your phone number and I will call you. It will save you money and more importantly time.

SunsetOrangeCreations 07-10-2008 05:37 PM

I have an engine vacuum based system on my car. It has rpm open mode AND WOT open mode. Its 100% digital and programmable to any parameter. My car is the first bi-mode retrofit car to have both rpm open and throttle position open modes as well as full open and full closed modes.
I retrofitted bi-mode exhaust to my car back in July 2007 before NPP mufflers were even available and before everyone thought is was "cool".

I am quite familiar with advanced retrofit bi-mode exhaust systems and can help you get yours to do whatever you want.

If you want an already built system I can do that. If you want the satisfaction of doing it all yourself, I am happy to help you get on the right track and get it done correctly.

I dont need to sell you anything to feel good about helping you.
I am happy either way, whether you buy a system from me or I help you get it all done yourself.

 Ben

how many INCHS" of Vacuum are required to close the flaps?

can you do a dyno test before and after?

No need the HP gain with NPP is already documented by GM 6hp

Yes, but doesn't the Z06 actually have a 3" exhaust system whereas the LS3 NPP exhaust is only 2.5". Shouldn't that yield a little more than 6hp?

you could leave off the exhaust and 6hp would be all you get

carlrx7 07-17-2008 01:33 PM

so anything less than 15" of vacuum, the flaps will open?

The Z06, the C6 standard, and the NPP mufflers all have a 2.5" inlet irrespective of the pipe size feeding them. Bottom line is moot point.

Well that really sucks. I guess I will just stick with my magnaflow :yesnod:

I want to know, the hp and torque. if he switchs the headers and ALL
