Would you use teflon for sealing up fuel lines?
 

I´ve a holley fuel pump and normally you just screw in those pipe/hose adapters until they are thight and everything should be sealed.
But in real life I´ve heared more than one time that guys broke the pump housing because they are screwing in the adapters more and more to get rid of the leaks, until the pump breakes.
I had a leak on a brand new unit, and I used teflon for sealing and it worked.
Now the question: Is it a common way to use teflon or is this Bubbas' way to fix problems?

You can use a little pipe thread tape on pipe thread fittings - this works okay. But don't use pipe thread tape in the threads of inverted flare fittings, since the threads are not the sealing surface on an inverted flare. Use a little lube on inverted flare fittings to achieve proper torque. Use tape on pipe thread to achieve a seal and smooth torque.

I used to use teflon tape. Now I use the tube of teflon. They are both great because the white will discolor with even a minute leak.

When installing a Holley carb and fuel line, I believe the instructions said to use teflon tape, so I think it is OK. I have used it in the past on fuel lines with no problem.

Another teflon tape user here. The tricks are to keep it a couple of threads away from the very end of the fitting and to wind it the opposite way from the direction the fitting tightens. The liquid teflon is somewhat easier to use.

There is nothing wrong with using teflon tape - I also use it.

As the Dude said: wrap the tape counterclockwise on the fitting.

Be careful abt Liquid Teflon; alot of them have a type of Loc-Tite in them and after a few years you play H trying to get them apart....tape is the way to go...A Plumber/Pipefitter w/over 30 yrs experience........ :yesnod: :flag :seeya

Lars is 100% right, DON'T use teflon tape on flared fittings. It is great stuff for thread on thread seals.

I've used teflon tape on 120psi air lines with no leaks so it should seal a fuel line :D

I would not recommend using teflon tape to seal fuel leaks. I do recommend Permatex Part B non-hardening sealer. The reason:

I found some teflon tape that had been soaking in gas for about a year and it was eaten up. My opinion is teflon tape should not be used to seal liquid fuel lines. I don't have any information as to the deterioration of teflon tape when exposed to gaseous fuels such as propane and natural gas.

If you use teflon tape in a fuel application then get an air tight container and stick some gas and tape in it and keep a watch on it for deterioration. If the tape is still in good shape then you won't have any worries. Don't take someone elses word when you can check it for yourself.
