Spare Tire for 2008 C6?
 

I've thought about getting a spare tire for my Corvette to throw in the back on long road trips. If I put aftermarket wheels/tires that were not run-flat, I would need this anyway.

I understand the wheel offsets for the base C6 are:
Front wheel size: 18x8.5 offset: +56 mm
Rear Wheel size: 19x10 offset: +79 mm

What would a recommended wheel offset/size be for use on any corner?

I would recommend a AAA card. No place to put a spare.

Offset? Doesn't matter as much as the different size tires Front and Rear.

What about the diameter? The Front and Rear are different diameters and the A/H depends on the difference in size. To be correct you would have to carry 2 spares.

What about the 60 pound unguided missile the "spare" would become in an accident?

What about the runflats protecting the rim from damage? Ever see what happens to a wheel with a blowout at high speeds on a conventional tire?

Stay with runflats and be safe.

I too was wondering if there was a 'donut' spare that would fit the C-6. I drive across Houston every working day and was thinking about buying non-run-flats, but would like to have a viable spare in the garage. If I got a flat on the freeway I could have my wife bring the spare and jack to get the car home.

I have 4 vehicles that do not have spare tires.
 

None of my 3 motorcycles have spare tires and neither does my Vette. I ain't worried about not carrying a spare tire. I carry two flat tire repair cans with me at all times, hopefully they will let me limp to some place if I ever get a flat. I also carry tire repair plugs. As I see it, the cans and plugs are better than nothing.

I just got AAA last year...best thing I ever did. I think it was about 120 bucks for me and the wife. They will tow anybody's car as long as the member is with it. I bought the 100 mile tow package. I got towed 100 miles for free already and my brothers truck broke down twice when I was with him and he got towed for free both times. It's even better than calling the wife:cheers:

Beat me to that.:cheers: OP did say long road trips. We do a lot of that, and can get a lot of gear in the back. Had both Verts and now Z06, you put a small tire in there and no much room left. :crazy:

Stick to RFs and carry a AAA card, no sense looking for trouble.

I agree with you guys. But, I have had it happen where I've been in an empty part of 95 on a long trip and had a flat tire at 3am. I didn't like being out of the car, or waiting in that situation.

I'm interested in a unique scenario/emergency solution.

Oh, and run-flats would be preferable, but don't think they make them in a size 305/25-20. And yes, I do carry fix-a-flat and repair kits always. :smash:

That's why you stay with runflats. Believe me, they really do work. Just ask the "doer" that was finally run to ground after the cars tires were spiked.

I checked out a company called Modern Spare. They were very up front about the kit they offer and answered all my questions about different wheel sizes front and rear. I bought the kit and am VERY glad I did. The idea of traveling out to areas without cell coverage and relying on run flats and their limitations did not appeal to me or my wife. Modern Spare makes a kit that includes a Pirelli tire rated at 81 MPH. It is NOT a donut tire, but has tread and two plies. It has unlimited mileage depending on tread life. It is on an 18" aluminum Corvette wheel that fit in the rear without causing computer issues because the tire is big enough to be equal to a slightly worn OEM tire. The tire fits the front without any interference under the body. They do recommend shutting down the traction control and stability controls since the car might sense something is a little off. The jack is a 3000 pound scissor jack that has fittings for the Corvette frame jack points, and tools to remove tight lug nuts. Needless to say, it takes up half the trunk. But the peace of mind is worth it. The tire can even be carried with the top down if you keep it as far back as possible and move the trunk barrier panel back over the tire while snapping it into place. The roof just touches the edge of the tire when down. I am highly impressed with the quality of the product and fact that the company is composed of Corvette guys. Check them out online.
