Homelink Installation On C5
Is there a 'How To' in the forum(s) for a Homelink install on a C5??
I know the Homelink can be powered by the visor mirror power source and the Homelink transmitter should be of the rolling code. I assume the visor mirror has 2 wires going to it (hot and ground), but I don't know what color is what. Since many Homelink transmitters are available with different wiring plugs and wire color, I was wondering what the experiences have been. Some transmitters seem to have a gaggle of wires coming out of their plugs. In reality, don't you need just the 2 wires? I have also read somewhere where the transmitter used should be the one with the little 'house' icon and red light on it. Any comments? I don't think this would be a big job, but I want to double check all bases before I do this. Anyone that has had experience with this installation, chime in please. Thanks, |
I'm also interested in knowing more about this mod. I assume the transmitter with the little house and red light is the one with the rolling code feature.

ANY MORE PICTURES of installations? Anyone? |
try this

try this link, it is the one I used. But before you sow it back up, be sure and try it to see that it works. I had to reverse the wires to get it to work. Jack |

Seen that link, talk about Corvette Tax!!! More like Corvette, Viper, Porsche, and Ferrari Tax all rolled into one item. $150 for the visor you already own and $230 for a new Visor with Homelink installed in it
The non Corvette Tax way is just pay like $20 to $50 on Ebay for the Homelink and you already own a Visor and do it yourself. The extra $100 I save will go in my Tank.

I like the writeup and pictures referenced in the Digital Corvette thread. Given you can find the right wires in the gaggle, this should work. I still don't understand why some transmitters have more than two wires coming out of them.
The second writeup involving the Homelink mounted on the center console has me wondering if (or how) the transmitter signal gets transmitted through all of the interior to the receiver. I thought that is why they are normally installed on the visor, the mirror, or an overhead console. I would never pay $150 to have the link installed in my or any other sunvisor. I too think the Corvette tax is disgusting and many take advantage of it. Thanks to all contributors and input thus far. |

:iagree: it is pretty crazy money for the product you're getting! For $150 I'll put up with the look of my door opener hooked on!

I would think the local upholstery shop could sew it right up for a few bucks.

I went with a Homelink mirror in my 2002: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1783910 |
I stopped by an upholstery shop to see what they would charge and he said, "shouldn't take but a couple minutes, not much" I said "$10 cover it?" he said "more than"
I had my Mom sew mine. Was going to have a co-worker do it but wanted it done early Saturday, couldn't wait till Monday and work! Not tough at all, she did have to use her button hold-down though, the layers were too thick for the normal hold-down. |
Hmmm,
I think the days of the $20 ebay homelink is well gone. Most are now much more expensive :toetap: |
