airbag light

I have ran searches looking for an answer, but haven't found anything. I was hoping someone out there could help...

I have a 2000 C5 and my airbag light has been coming on from time to time for the last couple of weeks. I looked for codes thru the DIC and found 58-SDM B0026 HC. I'm not sure what that code is and where to start looking for the problem.

Can anyone help?

Dave

Code b0026 indicates that the the inflatable sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) has detected a resistance that is not with in test range. This is basically a test of part of the air bag system by the SDM to check the voltage and resistance of the system. There are two wires ( DK GREEN and WHITE that go from the steering wheel module (SWM) to the SDM which is located under the AC controls behind the ash tray. In between is a connector. A poor connection at the SWM the connector or the SDM will throw a code b0026.

Extreme caution should be used when working on any part of the air bag system.

First, before doing ANY work on or around the airbag system, disconnect the battery for at least 5 minutes.

The B0026 is a problem with the "deployment" circuit. This is the circuit that, when powered, fires the bags. The SDM actually stores electricity in a capacitor so that if the car's main electrical system or battery are damaged during a wreck the SDM still has power to fire the bags at the appropriate moment. Disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes allows that stored power to dissipate.

Should the airbags deploy because of your messing with the system, you will have done several thousand dollars in damage to your car. Worse, if you are located in the wrong place when the bags deploy you can be seriously injured or killed. Notice the WARNING labels on the sun visors ??? Probably the only "safety" system in the history of the world that requires a warning that it can kill you.

Unless you have the Service Manuals for the car, I'd strongly recommend you consider taking the car to a dealer for this problem.

My 2001 C5 is doing the same thing. Any luck on this? Mine usually comes on only when it is over 90 degrees outside.

Did you check your codes ???? Do you have a B0026 also ?????

Mine is B0090. I googled it and one guy says B0090 is the air bag deactivation switch. I will go there.

Thanks guys.. Sounds like it's a bit over my head. Hopefully the dealer can handle it.

Hey dude, I realize that this is a REALLY OLD thread, but I've encountered the SAME problem you've described here. I have a '99. with code B0026 HC. I was just curious:

Did you ever fix the problem, or HAVE it fixed, and WHERE? If you took it to a dealer, did they reem you with the cost? I would try to do it myself, but I'm afraid of doing something stupid like killing myself.....

Thanks so much in advance...........
