FS: 350 crate engine 4K miles
 

I have a 1999 GM crate engine in my vette. I want to get car back to stock with tpi motor, so i'm selling this one. Motor has approximately 4,000 miles on it. Standard bore and stroke. Has a HOLLEY 750 carb and an Edelbrock Victor Jr. high rise intake. This is a very strong running engine. Took a high torque gear reduction starter to turn this motor over. Also has a 700r4 transmission with it. Trans needs a rebuild. Will sell with or without trans.

2 questions. First of all how does it fit under the stock hood with a high rise intake??? Second, how much you want for just the engine? :bigears

Ha ha good question.. previous owner cut a square out of the hood where the air filter sits. But i was told the motor and trans was around three to four grand new? I would like around $2000 for the motor...like i said motor is like new and runs great.

I still don't understand...Why not just buy a TPI setup, change the intake, distributor, cam in your crate motor, and everything goes back to stock?
You could save yourself about $1500.
Why go to all the trouble of changing engines?
a 350 is a 350 is a 350 unless youo have the original engine or one is an LT-1 and the other is Gen 1
Doesn't your crate motor have aluminum heads? (ZZ4?)
If it were me, If it didn't have aluminum heads, I'd buy a set of 113 heads(used rebuilt $600), change the cam(LT-1 hotcam or one from summit in flat tappet computer compatible), and plop the TPI setup(($350) on your engine, and VOILA! TPI L98
The TPI cams come in both flavors, roller and flat tappet.
The L98 with alum 58cc heads has dished pistons (14cc).
My 86 has 113 heads and it's original flat top pistons, and my only concession is I have to run middle grade gas. The TPI is off of an 88 corvette. The exhaust manifolds are off of an 89. it all bolts together.

Well i was told that my intake bolts had to be pitched straight down in order for a tpi set up to work on the motor?? All i know is my bolts bolt to the intake at an angle. Also i would need all the brackets, pulleys, alternator, and some of the a/c components, and i'm sure other things that i don't currently have.

I have a complete engine and transmisson in an 87 parts car that I have. Have complete wiring harness, ecm, the whole shooting match. Somone even took the time to polish the intake, runners, all the brackets, even the a/c dryer. I was going to use it in my 89, but looks like it will be too far down the road, afraid engine is just going to set there, can even hear it start ahd run.

Ok, well i took the part numbers on my motor to the internet and found out it is a 350 H.O. (high output) and is around $3700 new as a base with no carb or intake. I would be very interested in your vette motor and set up but i would have to get rid of my crate motor first. That is unless your interested in anyt sort of trade.. :yesnod:

not picking on you, just curious why the trouble of restoring a c4, all the way back and still won't be numbers matching? and not a real good investment. Also if you have the v style you could have more options for high power intake maybe!

1. fix tranny
2. new intake setup
3. new hood or hi rise baby

you can purchase a set of ready to go overhauled vette heads for $600. The TPI for $350 and you need a harness anyway, $175.
a serpentine belt setup with all brackets for $175 water pump $125 belt, hoses, misc. $200. sure beats another $3700

You have to pardon some of us here on the forum. we tend to do more with less money using creativity

I know for a fact, my 1986 tpi intake base, will bolt onto your heads. all you need to do, is look for an early intake. Use your current engine, and just put all factory accessories on it. hell, I will even sell my intake base, just verify that you have early gen 1 intake bolt pattern.,

I can go pick this up for you, for a small fee to cover my fuel ( like 10.00)( 60 mile round trip), I will than ship it to you, of course you pay shipping charges, along paying for the parts in ad. let me know
