1968 'unique items only' list?
Hello:
I just bought a great 68 convertible that I am going to do a full frame off resto; (I will post pictures soon, and over the next year or so); I read somewhere on here that someone compiled a list of items were unique to a 1968 only - does anyone have that? Thanks in advance. Kevin S. Orchard Park, NY |
big list brother............
where do we start.....reverse lights, gas tank fill lid, rear deck vents, convert top rear pin latches, seats, e brake console, seatbelts, seat covers, center shift plate, shift boot, gauge bezel, radio knobs ( 2 different 68 versions), kick panels, door push buttons, antenna mast and nut, wiper motor, windshield washer squirters, 327 engine, voltage reg, headlight / wiper lid vacuum relays, headlight bezels and covers, front grilles (several production changes),front bumper (real early 68), rear gas lid emblem, removable hardtop, PO-1 covers, steering wheel, door panels, early 68 interior door handles, rear compartment hinges, wheel size, wiper arms, headlight vacuum canisters, wiper door cannister, hood latches, shifter ball, ignition switch, smog pump (small block one had relief valve) Some of these were early 69 parts, but most are 68 only...........ok, I'm tired, someone else add some more. |
lol; I thought it was 54 items.....
Thanks. Kevin |

I'm going to turn it into a beauty... Kevin |
A few more items.
antenna mast and nut, same as 67 Outside door handles. Seat backs same at 69 early LH lower dash pad. (for ign switch). RH lower dash pad (no map pocket) Door window wipes, inner and outer. Windshield pillar interior moldings on inside of car. Door weatherstrips. t-top weatherstrips t-top moldings dash vent center (wiper switch plate) on a/c cars. Gas door emblem. |
My favorite: 1968 corvette one year only brakelight switch. :)
nobody mentioned 7" wheels? |
oh yeah............frame (early 68's), valve covers (l-79), oil fill cap , same as 67 i think, intake manifold (has oil fill tube) door sill plates (rumor is they were wider on early 68's), oh yea, don't forget about the courtesy interior lights on the coupes.......
Having said that, when was your car built? 68 parts can vary depending on when it was built...........that's a whole other mess. Welcome to the my hell. |

avalonjohn,
Sorry, I only listed the antenna since it was the same as 67, and I missed the gas door emblem. There were tons of early and late parts too. . . Probably to many to list. Hard car to restore for sure. W |

Yup, your right. The problem is these parts are one year only and it would not pay to invest in the tooling to make most of these items.
I've done one and that was enough! I spent way to many hours searching for parts to make this car right! We even gave in on some items and used (the pillar post interior moldings) the replacement parts. Hey, I just thought of another. . . Header moldings or upper windshield end moldings. Willcox |

Thanks! Part of the allure of this car is the 'uniqueness' that is special to this year....
I'm finishing up a 30 x 40 pole barn; once it's done I can get this, and my other cars in there and post some progress photos. Kevin Orchard Park, NY (If anyone is in the Buffalo area, feel free to contact me) |
