OMG ... top noises gone

The new GM top latches arrived and I had the dealer install them on both my solid and tranparent tops this morning. My popping noises are all gone, the car's quiet as a mouse. It's only one day so far, but it appears that the engineersing fix works.

Good news.

I think I have the new latches on my '09, which was assembled in August. Perfectly quiet tops, both painted and transparent.

I've got an 09 with the new latches - 1500 miles and no noise to date.

 That is great news, I am fortunate I have an 2008 and so far no noise at all.

Did GM send them to you? If so, how did you get them to do that?

I complained about the noise to the dealer. I have had my 2007 for 18 months now. They said that there had recently been a service bulletin issued by GM. The dealer ordered and installed the new latches under warranty.

Great news and my 09 built in August has no issues so far, but on the lookout:cheers:

I've done almost all the forum fixes on my 07 except this one.. I noticed yesterday that the rear section of the top appears to be delaminating.. probably explains the popping and creaking.. :willy::willy:

Great news, now we know what really works.

Grumpy...did you have the foam fix done on that top? Are you in a hot climate?

If this ends up to be the true fix, we should find out the engineer's name who figured out the fix and all of us send him a tip!

Chris Aude was the principle on the top problem. There were a number of folks involved in the solution including a couple from the assembly plant. Lots of people, lots of effort. They wanted this issue put to bed.

glad to hear that the fix seems to work. about two weeks ago the popping and cracking started after more than two years of owned the 06 C6. i have the latches ordered at the local dealer and will have them installed as soon as they arrive. interesting that i only hear the driver side latch making noise...

So is the a full blown TSB? Does anyone have the number or a copy of the bulletin?

Can you start a new thread with a picture?

Dave Tracy 10-15-2008 10:47 PM

It looks like those of us with '05s and some '06s have to pay for these fixes since the initial warranties have expired.

BSE1956 10-15-2008 10:48 PM

My local dealer told me last week that there is not a bulletin on this.
My 09 was popping on one side, so I protected the top and sprayed some white silicon grease on the rollers and surprise! NO NOISE.
