It's Official: C7 Corvette shelved indefinitely by GM. Source: Autoweek
No surprise. (Of course, what does officially really mean? Only work on it after hours?)
Read it in my 10/20/08 Autoweek today...shelved "indefinitely" but, no chance of Corvette being cancelled according to Tom Wallace. There will continue to be tweeks to the C6 thru at least 2012-2013, and this is very much in doubt as well...could be longer than 2013. I did not see the article posted on line at their website yet, however. One last thing: Wallace does mention some "neat things" coming in the 2010 model. Take it FWIW. |
article posted.

Gm
GM is in survival mode right now with the economy in the tank.

GM lies about how bad things are, just like any other company facing the possibility of bankruptcy.
My guess is that they will end up Ch 11 or a government-managed bailout that is essentially the same thing. The big questions are: How will that effect the quality and features for the remainder of the C6 run, and Would I want to buy an orphan Corvette. ie, GM stops making them. Nobody thought that Pan American would ever go out of business... |

penny wise but clueless
The bean counters there don't have a clue. They paid 2 Billion dollars so they would NOT have to buy Fiat. Ironically it is the smaller Fiat models that might have saved them now.
Look on the bright side; more years of production for the ZR1... |
According to the Mayans the world ends in 2012 so I think we're good...

:iagree:
Yeah, what's that X-Files alien invasion date? 12-22-12? :conehead:eek: |
I would have never expected the Corvette to be so closely behind the Viper in that respect.
But our car makers have no future with the current import/export bias and labor agreements. So unless the government plans to bail them out forever, they may die completely. |

Hopefully, GM will not kill off the Vette all together. They say they wont, but things can change down the road. |

Merger
I heard a news broadcast recently that GM & Chrysler were in negoiations. Wonder How that will effect Corvette & Viper if they do become one corporation?:chevy

It's hard to believe the C6 will carry Corvette through 2014. Seems like a very long time, even though the C6 is an excellent Corvette.

The C3 was 167 years old before the C4 came around. :D |
Great news! My 05 could possibly be nine years old and still look brand new! Talk about bang-for-the buck.

 yeah and with all the body kit conversions you can make it a C7 when it finally is built or you could go back in time and make it a 62 corvette . www.crcoachworks.com |
