LG Streets + good tune = 1 happy owner!

Recently I took advantage of LGM's Street series sale and had a set put on my '00 hardtop. Patrick and the crew at Quality Motorsports in Lewisville, TX did a great job of pulling the old system out, swapping the AIR tube (needed for pre-'01 cars, IIRC), installing the new system (with RT hi-flow cats), and re-tuning the car.

Only "mod" the engine has had done was cutting out the top center of the stock air intake cover to let the engine inhale a bit better. Earlier dyno run netted 309 rwhp. After the install and tune (took Pat only two shots at it once he had the baseline tune installed), we ended up with 334 rwtq/335 rwhp, right on line with what I've heard comes from the LG streets.

With 178,000 miles on the engine, I didn't want to bump up the rev limiter (I've replaced the valve springs, but was concerned with the rod bolts), nor did I want to run on the ragged edge of lean knock just to get one good dyno pull out.

Street-wise, the LG Streets w/cats and my Ti mufflers is virtually silent at highway speeds. You hear them under acceleration or at higher rpms, but going down the road all I hear is tire noise. Also picked up about 2 mpg (average from an 800 mile weekend trip to Arkansas).

So, for anyone on the fence about getting some LTs on their car (pick your brand), get it done! Also, I couldn't be happier with Quality Motorsports, so if you're in the DFW area, give them a call!

Have a good one,
Mike

:iagree: I went from 356 rwhp to 395 rwhp with just these headers :D

That's an interesting torque curve; what engine are these curves from? If I had my curves on-line I'd post them. I'll work on that tonight.

Have a good one,
Mike

Its a stock LS6

Wow! I cant wait until Christmas!!!!!! Those gains are very impressive, my C5 has a BBK CAI, Magnaflow Xpipe, and exhuast I figure with those and a tune I should pick up similar numbers and take out a C6 or two.

Interesting that your curve is so peaky; mine's much more flat, but obviously at a lower number. Your's climbs from 335 tq at 2750 and peaks at 385 at 4800, mine runs from 315 at 2500 to 336 at 5000. I figured an LS-6 would breathe better at higher revs.

Thanks for sharing, and have a good one,
Mike

Mine are on my way can't to put them on especially since I have a blower

395 RWHP with just intake and headers?????

Intake + headers + tune = 40 rwhp, might be a bit optimistic; I got 30, but my tune wasn't optimized for hp, but for "area under the curve", since I don't drag race but autocross with the occasional HPDE. Also, the LS-6 breathes a bit better than the LS-1, so it might respond better than mine.

Have a good one,
Mike

There has to be an error in that dyno graph. Torque crosses horsepower at the wrong rpm. They cross somewhere between 4200 and 4600. They should cross at 5252. The second graph looks accurate.

Nice gains! I'm getting my LT's installed in a few months. Already have the Ti's. I'm looking for some great gains too..(will be getting it tuned as well)...My LT's are a custom set, more similar to LG Pros...

VetteDrmr 11-05-2008 01:02 PM

Thanks, and good luck with your LTs as well! One thing I was really hoping for was a nice quiet system at hwy speeds, and this system with the RT hi-flow cats really delivered. A small amount of drone if you're accelerating in 6th around 12-1400 rpm, but once you're above 1500 even that goes away.

It really helps to have a good tuner as well, and Pat did a great job.

I'd like to hear it!

I am looking forward to buying myself a set for christmas

Great to hear. This is on one my list of projects to do :)

I will also be installing some LT's in the near future so that is good news and very nice gains.

Hey Mike - educate me on what needs to be done to the AIR tubes please.
Thanks.....

I'm more impressed with 178K than anything, especially since it seems like the car is regularly tracked. These engines are tougher than I thought.

first graph is HP and HP, not HP/TQ.....I'm assuming 1st pull and 2nd....

The issue is that the HP scale on the left and torque scale on the right are not 1:1. There's nothing wrong with those curves.
