Hi Michael, since all 68's were dated on the base, can you advise what that date is? Also, something I've notice on 68 stamps in 68........the number "2" is a different stamp type within the stamp.....for example, the two number 2's on my 68 7028219 are actually a different stamp style......I have verified this by looking at dozens of other examples. These seem to be exactly alike......I need your eyes as the picture is kinda fuzzy, are they the same..? also, let us know the date, thanks, john

Hello John,i have looked and looked for a date code and havent seen one anywhere is it possible that it is under the yellow "factory tested" sticker?also what type of number would the date code be?(how long?-how many digits?),ive included a couple extra stamping codes pictures,in my opinion they look to be the same "font" type but are a tad bit taller and a tad bit skinnier than the rest, except for the 7 as it is huge, deep, and wide, ive completely decoded the 7028209 Part but is the FG the date code? it only has the one line of vertical stamping,

Example: #70 2 8 2 1 9 DG 1938

70 - Prefix code. "70" will appear on all late '60's Rochester Carburetors. All Rochester Carburetors built from 70 - 75 should have a "70" prefix but could be missing on some carburetors. In '76 the prefix changed to "170".

2 - Decade produced.

2 - 1960's
3 - 1060's with A.I.R.
4 - 1970-1975
5 - 1976-1979

8 - 1980's

8 - Year produced. 8=1968

2 - Model

0 - Monojet (1 bbl) Federal standards
1 - Two jet (2 bbl) Federal standards
2 - Quadrajet (4 bbl) Federal standards
3 - Monojet (1 bbl) California standards
4 - Two jet (2 bbl) California standards
5 - Quadrajet (4 bbl) California standards

0 - Division. 0, 1, and 2 all indicate Chevrolet.

9 - Transmission
Even numbers - Automatic Transmission
Odd numbers - Manual Transmission

Hi, yes, I agree the fonts look good. On 68's, the date code was stamped on the side of the base. In your example, the "1938" (which is the 193rd day of 68) would be stamped on the side edge of the base. That's the beauty of 68 carbs, change the base and you've changed the date. Could be your carb had the base exchanged for a later one that did not have the date stamped. It's not a show stopper, stamped bases are easy to come by.

It must have had the base exchanged, which may have been done if it was rebuilt, otherwise the date should e on there. It's not a show stopper, these are easy to find.

I need a running q jet for my 327 I'm building. How about $75. If it was a 68 350hp quad, I would be first in line.

Heres Your Sign::withstupid:

Was only kidding, but sure I will play. Your add states OBO. Or best offer. Looks like I'm your only offer on that NAPA rebuild carb.

You might want to spend a couple of days posting on a site before you start trying sell that super rare carb. That doesn't usually go over to good on a site like this.

And yes it's a Napa carb, it's in a Holley box because Holley rebuilt it. You can still go to Napa today and order the carb over the counter. It's a "luck of the draw" which # you'll get, but it will be a vintage BB carb just like yours.

Good luck on your sale and be careful who you call Stupid....

If this is for a 68 327/350hp $75 is a steal...probably need to multiple by about 5 or 6.

Yep for a 219. Most that I have tracked on ebay only bid to $350 and never make reserve. Some of the people selling these parts think its still 2007. If muscle cars were bring big money right now, it would be easier to accept paying $1000 for a used carb.
