*** I DID IT ! ! ! Smashed the 8-second barrier today ***

Mission accomplished ! :yesnod: :D 8.87 at 155Mph .

I got in on a last minute rental today and after 2 weeks of sh*t weather here in the Northeast , I was salivating at the chance to race today , everything fell into place , just like I needed it to .

The track was good , not great , and took some time to figure out , I had some promising runs in the beginning of the day , tried a few new things , had some traction problems and was under the gun by the end of the day , the rental closes at 430pm , it was 415pm and I still didn't have that 8-second slip , all day I kept leaving with less boost 2-3lbs and playing with tire pressures and finally ran ran a 9.08 at 156 , almost there , pulled a 1.47 60ft , I came back around , let the car cool down about 5 minutes and pulled in to the burnout box at 427pm , did a short burnout and staged , I got to the line and said f*ck it ! I knew I had to come out harder but wasn't sure if the track would hold because it wasn't earlier on , I came up on the transbrake saw 5lbs and let it rip , I honestly knew it was an 8-second pass by about the 1000ft mark , the car was dancing around and pulling harder than it ever has , no way I was lifting , I hit the rev limiter right at the finish line . As Julio gave me the slip he told me it was a 9.01 , I was still happy , when I read it and it said 8.87 I almost jumped through the roof . :D

I finally got my 3700+lb pig in the 8's and I did it like I wanted to on the same wheels and tires I drive on every day , the car was driven to and from the track ( 145 miles round trip ) on my radials .

Here's a breakdown of the slip .

60ft-1.373

1/8th-5.744

1/8th MpH-125.00

1/4-8.874
Mph-155.29

And there's more in it , no boost controller , I'm running off the spring in my Tial-60 wastegate , the largest spring combo is 15lbs , I'm running a 14lbs spring , car is making 18lbs of boost . When I get the right boost controller I should be able to run another 3-4lbs of boost .

I'm very impressed with my Cartek 402 , the motor is a mild combo , no exotic parts , I was dead broke when I had Cartek build it , so it was a budget build .

Stock bore LS-2 block ,

Cartek Turbo Grind Hydraulic-roller cam , stock rocker arms .

Stock LS-6 Intake manifold , stock ported throttle body .

ETP 255 LS-1 Heads with stock Z-06 Exhaust manifolds .

I wonder what it would run with some 6-bolt LS-7 style heads and intake and a solid-roller ?? :reddevil ;) .

Huge props to the whole Cartek crew for all you've done for me over the last 8 years , I never could have done this with out you guys .  .

On to the driveline , my

RPM Built 4L80E Trans is a f*cking beast ! I hot lapped the car a few times today and it never skipped a beat , you guys are the kings of the C5/C6 driveline world :yesnod:

I've got some thinking to do over the winter , I may turn it up a notch , or I may just de-tune and enjoy it like I did most of this year .

I achieved my goal of running 8's in a true street driven IRS A4 transmission C5 , now I will have to set a new goal .
The timeslip and video will be up shortly .

Thanks Jay . That easy shakedown pass was when I knew I was going to have a great day , I did an easy shakedown run and literally took off like I was just cruising away from a light and leaned into it once I hit third gear and still trapped 154 .

Julio , I have huge respect for you as a tuner/engine builder and as a friend , thanks for all you have done for me over the past 8 years , we've had some great times together , it's days like today that make this sometimes frustrating hobby worth it , you are tops in your line of work . I have to say I think today tops the feeling I got when we were the first All-Motor IRS C5 in the nines four years ago . Thanks again to you , Roy , Mike , Julian , Max and Tim . You guys are a great team , and you have big things ahead of you . We have to have a little sit down this winter and see where we want to go from here . ;) :D

Shinobi'sZ 11-19-2008 12:06 AM

Yeah , It wiggled pretty good on the 2-3 shift , a lot more than you can see in the video , also if you look at where I start out in the groove and look where I finish up at the end of the track , you can tell the car was dancing around up top , it was fighting me all the way .

Great job man, gotta love reaching a goal. Thanks for getting us in on the rental too, I would have liked to stay and watch because I knew you had it, but it was too dam cold and I had to go.

I got the 9.1 video if you want it, but doesn't matter much now!

It's a shame Jay's car took the trans out first pass, I think we would have hooked at 100%, but that's the 4l60 blue's...

Redline Motorsports 11-19-2008 10:12 AM

Mike,

A well deserved pass to say the least! I can still remember being at E-town when we where just breaking into the 11's with these cars and look at it now!!!!!!

This just goes to show people that building, tuning and driving these cars is a hell of a commitment and takes a good support team to do it as well as many passes!

Good to see the Cartek crew back in full attack mode and getting this beast dialed in. When can we expect 8.5x's? LOL!!!!!!!

Congrats again!

Howard

Adjustable QA-1's in the front , Bilsteins out back . With the front shocks cranked all the way tight , it handles great on the street , even with the skinny's up front , I've been driving it that way for three years now .

Not to my knowledge , there was a Lingenfelter 427 Twin-Turbo that went 8.95 but that was with C5R heads , a sheetmetal intake and a 4L60E trans with 4th gear/overdrive removed for less drag/added strength . There are a few other guys out there who are closing in on 8's .

Yellow03Z06 11-19-2008 11:26 AM

That's awesome!!!

Running 8's and driving it on the street. A true street/strip monster.

There should now be a law that you can't trailer your car to the track unless it runs faster than 8's.

Congrats!

What makes this so friggin crazy is:

It was done on a M/T "Street Radial"

Car has a "true overdrive transmission"

Driven to the track

And the car weighs 3700lbs:eek:

This is the FIRST and FASTEST A4 equiped C5-that's one hell of an acomplishment Mike!

I have to thank you Mike cause this pass just turned on my competitive fire!

I was really missing that with Dave's passing this year.

Thank You !

Bill's car is awesome , but he can't drive it to the track and run an 8 , not without stopping every few miles to fill up his fuel cell . I don't want this thread to turn into a war , so let's end the comparison now , most of us know the difference between the two cars .

orangecrrrush 11-19-2008 01:24 PM

Thanks again Arun , I stuck to my plan and it worked out for me , I wanted to be the guinea pig for the 4L80E conversion to prove to the big power " street driven " C5/C6's that it could be done and it gives everyone another option to go fast with reliablity and still retain the drivability .

It's a lot easier to throw money at a car and go fast with hardcore race parts , I just proved you can still be fast , maybe not the fastest , but fast enough and have a car you can drive anywhere .

It's been a long road for you. I hope you can sit back and simply enjoy the car now. After all, what more could you want from a street car?

I think Brent had the right idea when he bought a fully built, turn key race car and trailer for the track. If you want anymore than what you have now, you might want to consider doing the same. Although, I can't see how you could. 8 seconds is INSANE no matter who you are. The fact that you are doing it with a true street car just makes it more amazing. Props to you and Cartek for reaching all the goals that were set.....and then some.

Wow Mike impressive pass no doubt, congrats. The thing is with a 1.37 60'er it seemed so damn smooth; that car is really set-up and took the power perfect. I also would like to host your video on my site, even though it's an N2O site i will add a turbo video section because the pass is such an accomplishment for a 100% true street/strip car. I knew you would get an 8.xx pass, but you have tore into the 8's and certainly more left.

Congrats Mike I knew you would get that 8sec ET. I've been bustin you up for a while to try and make it happen, I guess it worked. I'm looking forward to meeting you (and letting you buy me a drink) at PRI in a few weeks. :D Hey would you mind if I put your 8sec video up on our website?

Rodney , I owe you more than a drink , dinner is on me my friend . Thank you for all you've done for me over the last 4 years , this would not be possible with out your help and great product , you can see in the video how crisp the trans shifts , it really kicks you in the asz inside the car . I'm proud to be the first RPM A4 Trans car in the 8's :yesnod: , and of course you can put the video up .

Congrats man!! What is the exact tire you are running? I can't find any 315 Mt's anywhere in 16 inch.

They are on backorder , very hard to find , my friend Adam gave me the set I just recently put on a few weeks ago , I have another set that's got a little life in them as a backup . I hope they keep making these tires .

I'm new to the vettes but not new to the track- those numbers and that vid speak volumes!

running 8s on a car you DROVE to the track is VERY RARELY seen and it's such a beautiful sight when you see it

Congrats to you and everyone who had a hand in your success and frame that timeslip:thumbs:

Julio , I have huge respect for you as a tuner/engine builder and as a friend , thanks for all you have done for me over the past 8 years , we've had some great times together , it's days like today that make this sometimes frustrating hobby worth it , you are tops in your line of work . I have to say I think today tops the feeling I got when we were the first All-Motor IRS C5 in the nines four years ago . Thanks again to you , Roy , Mike , Julian , Max and Tim . You guys are a great team , and you have big things ahead of you . We have to have a little sit down this winter and see where we want to go from here . ;) :D

Thanks for the very kind words Mike. We will always be there for you.

Julio

BTW, here are the time slips.

Freaking Incredble achievement Mike just OUTSTANDING and I feel your excitement bro and am happy for you!

GREAT JOB, incredible machine and did it with the tires you run on the street is very, very  !!!!

Simply amazing that you were able to achieve this on Drag Radials (MTs I assume) that were hooking you better than slickes. Really speaks volumes on those drag radials and the fact you drove it to the track and drove it back home is truely priceless and the true test of your beast being a true street/strip car!

Congrats for smashing into the 8s with a street driven Vette, never thought I would see that out of a daily driver:thumbs::thumbs:

Mike,

That is awesome!! I know what work went behind that 8.87 from you and Cartek. Well deserved!!!!

Julio,

It must be the Cigar that made the difference!

Adam

Adam , You were part of that pass , if you didn't give me those tires , I would be in trouble , they have been on backorder for months , I don't know what I'm going to do when these wear out , hopefully they'll be available .

Thanks , I honestly would've been just as happy with an 8.99 , now that I know there is still more in it , and my competitive juices are flowing , with a few small changes over the winter , I think I'm going to shoot for 8.70's at 160 .

Thanks to all of you guys for the props , the past 2-1/2 years have been rough for me , 3 surgeries , loss of a job , house etc , I didn't have the funds to put the car on kill and go after my goal , but the last few months have been great , good things are happening for me , and I got that 8-second slip , now it's time to regroup and set the bar higher .

Thanks for your support .
