Auto Zone or Walmart Car Ramps

If I purchase either of these (Auto Zone or Walmart) plastic car ramps, will I be able to get a non-lowered vette on these without damaging the underside of the vette (assuming they don't slip).

Thanks

nope too steep. build your own. do a search. find the plans. i did and they work great. just weigh alot but cost me under 50 bucks.

Yes. I have a set. You'll be fine. I use helper ramps now that my car has been lowered. Just barely clears riding a 1x10 up the first part of the ramp. Lower air dam scrapes but it's flexible and doesn't get hurt.

I have the rhino ramps and they work fine, I got em on sale for $45, compared to the price of the race ramps... My rubber air dam hits but bends out of the way with no damaging effects.

My car has hard plastic dams. The Rhino ramps drug going up and coming down tore off the drivers side. I got pissed and made my own ramps with Mike Mercury's design as a guide. Much better ramp and 11 inches tall.

If I wasn't a cheapskate I'd buy the Raceramps but I am what I am.

That's probably the best option right there! I need to build some of those also... The Rhino Ramps are just a tad too low for my gut!

I bought a set of the Rhino Ramps from Wal-Mart when I had mine. Car went up they just fine, but the front spoiler did scrape a bit. Didn't hurt anything as it is very flexible.

RLYSLO 11-26-2008 05:59 AM

if you're worried about it scraping, you can probably put a board or something in front of the ramp to lift it up a bit as the car approaches the front of the ramp, then it should clear.

Race ramps are well worth the money. They are very sturdy and wide.

:iagree: Corvette tax anybody?

I took the lowering bolt off my car, and I drive up 2x4's to get up there. We had two versions of the wallyworld ramps, and they are about the same. I like the rhino ramps better though; they seem to be much more sturdy.

I have to totally agree on this one and signal the "Corvette Tax" alert!

Seriously I have seen these all over the place and to this date I haven't found them under $100 which is really where they should be. Even if these things were sold for $89.99 for the barebones set they still would be making a 40-50% profit on each set. We all know that the pricing is solely based upon the original design/prototype/machining of the first set. After one is out, its relatively cheap to duplicate and crank out the rest. Its the same process as making a CD or DVD...all the cost is in the setup. I dunno why knockoffs of these haven't been really made available yet...guess a lot of vette folks have money and are willing to spend it....I dunno I went and bought a set of Rhino's myself and just put a block in front too.

I use the gray Rhino Ramps $35 at Walmart

No problem with a non lowered car although you need to stop them slipping as you drive up there.

:iagree:I just bought a pair after a lot of research. Pricey....yes, but I figure I will make up for the cost of having quality ramps with the work I'll be able to do instead of taking her someplace.

tstar 11-27-2008 01:08 AM

I don't understand that logic... Looks like warren s (post above yours) can do the same work while keeping around $230 that can be used towards said work...

Honestly to do any real work under the front I have to jack it up anyway. The ramps get it up high enough for me to slip the jack under which is easier for me then jacking from the sides...

BUT as long as you're happy and feel safe under the Race Ramps that's all that really matters!

Tim
