L88 vs LT1/BBC hood scoop 68 -72
Hi All,
A friend pointed something out to me. I hadn't really noticed before. I always thought of the BBC hood scoop as not the same as the LT1 scoop but the bigger dip without the bridge or center bar as I will now call the L88 hood Scoop. I hadn't realized that the stock 427/454 scoop was the same as the LT1 scoop, (Is it the same?) Was the bigger L88 scoop factory correct on any car? Was there a difference between the LT1 and 427 or 454 factory hood scoops? http://www.zercustoms.com/carparts.p...0&t=1163510153 http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...5&dept_id=1737 was this a factory "stock" design? http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...3&dept_id=1737 |
Hi,
I believe the L-88/ZL-1 hood was for real, came from St.Louis, and different than the normal BB/LT-1 hood. It has a different 'bulge' and 'cowl- induction'. Regards, Alan |
the LT-1 hood and the big block c3 hood are the same hood. at least that is my understanding. the L88 is different with a larger scoop after the louvers.

The only difference in thr 427 / 454 hoods from a LT-1 hood are the emblems on the big block hoods for the motor size.
A true original LT-1 hood would have no holes drilled for the 427 / 454 numbers. The LT-1 has the double pin strip which I think does a great job outlining and hoghlighting the buldge. The L88 hoods or taller scoop hoods were a factory hood. The air filter is in the hood and as said it offers cowl indunction. A must to make the HP those monsters made. David |
Underside of the L-88 hood. It's called an air chamber.

The "long" L88 hoods, designed to eliminated the wiper door on 68-72 and also used on later cars, are custom, non-stock hoods. |
Here is a pic of a factory L88.http://i35.tinypic.com/2n22nus.jpg
